Re: It's Videogames

So you're going to pawn off at least a couple tasks on Noelle, right? She's so helpful! https://i.imgur.com/YQii8Js.png My fave right now is Fischl, though. https://i.imgur.com/X1hTI4U.png Fischl is a gigantic dork. She talks like this constantly, with Oz (her summoned raven) mostly humoring her. T...

Re: Headline of the Day

That doesn't sound mentally ill to me, it just sounds like a normal, insecure teenager. People are weirded out because she's talking like a real person instead of using the generally accepted vaguely corporate-optimistic ("together, we can be strong. we can overcome") or youtube-narcissistic ("thank...

Re: Headline of the Day

To me, these kinds of articles always read as "I Don't Get Media These Days". These kinds of fun corporate-manufactured personalities (vtubers etc.) have been a thing for some time now. They're fine. They're fun. No one is taking them as seriously as Vice is. The kids will be fine. Calm down.

Re: the smallbox moving picture with sound thread (telly vision)

It definitely felt like they were catering more towards the adult fans in later seasons. Early episodes were more simple friendship lessons for kids, then later it was Pony Superheroes! Twilight Goes Insane! Time Travel!

that's not well-thought out; how are you going to use chapstick when your face is sewn into someone's ass?
get him to swallow the chapstick, then stay vigilant

Re: the smallbox moving picture with sound thread (telly vision)

I mean I assume you didn't get as far as the brainwashing pony cult thing. Or the mountain-smashing magic battle against the demonic life-draining centaur. Or the changeling queen trying to stage a coup and infiltrate/invade Canterlot. But I think the show has more breadth than you currently expect.

Re: Planet Apocalypse Game Dis

That's why co-op games should have secret information. Everyone should have their own cards or whatever. Gloomhaven is great because it doesn't matter how much of an asshole I am, I can't dictate my teammate's turn for him, because I can't see his action cards and he's not allowed to tell me.

They can be great, but everyone has to be super into it and willing to check the thread and post multiple times a day. I ran some board games on GG way back when (here's Mage Knight ) and it worked wonderfully, but the players were all insanely committed. Almost 2000 posts total in the space of a li...

Re: Planet Apocalypse Game Dis

I'm willing to play on if everyone else is still into it, but the pace of the game has sort of made it difficult to get absorbed. I find that I've completely forgotten what is even going on every time my turn comes around again, and re-evaluating the board state and character/monster abilities from ...

The best part is that the first party member I met in the game greeted us with "Welcome to Mondstadt, strange yet respectable travelers!" which I thought was a pretty dumb line, but turns out it's the mandatory greeting in the handbook.

Okay, true, but the effort/result calculus is still ridiculously skewed in favor. Just learn the hiragana first, you can't avoid them anyway and you can just get them out of the way and feel good about making progress. Plus, learning the difference between 痛み, 痛む, 痛い, 痛める etc is going to be made unn...

Wanikani is interesting because it has its super-specific take on how kanji learning Should Be Done, and that's how you do it. Period. For example, you're given a certain number of lessons, and if you're done with them, then you have to wait until it decides that now is the optimal time for quizzing...

They have a reputation for supporting their games long-term, and for lots of big meaty content upgrades, so yeah, I'm very hopeful! Re: It's Videogames

You could put the sweet items in random chests all over the world! Like, the +1 gathering item could be in a tier 3 chest somewhere on the first continent, but it could be in any one of the tier 3 chests. That would make for cool stories ("hey guys, I opened my first chest and found this, what is th...

Re: It's Videogames

Kind of, gacha means a random slot machine-like mechanic (can be loot boxes too). The chests in the game aren't part of the gacha (which is why they never have anything really cool). The gacha can only be accessed by using its own special premium currency, and it's the only way to get the best stuff.

Re: It's Videogames

The one thing I dislike is the loot. It's incredibly "gamey", in the sense that you're basically never surprised by anything you find. Hey a tier 2 chest, that's gonna have some tier 2 XP books and maybe some basic crafting materials and a 2-star weapon or two. Opening a chest should be exciting, bu...
