Seems good

I finally for the first time made a protocol for choosing where to set up. Invasion won't set up in Australia ever again. Or in the ocean, when Cthulhu is playing. Cthulhu OTOH will always put a portent in the ocean if Invasion is playing

Invasion and Black Goat gang up on Cthulhu. Black Goat pulls off a totally devastating Avatar to retake South Atlantic. I'm not sure Invasion can get its spellbooks, though. I think it's still playing too carefully. It's going to have to be more reckless with Baphomet

Black Goat had 20 power and rituals. Invasion would have had 9 power, but Minimum Power Rule kicks in

I don't usually post round ones, but this is wild

Invasion takes Blood Offering first instead, due to my edit, and then Blood Offerings. He draws 1 3 3. Cthulhu says, I'll give you two cultists for six doom! Invasion says, sure

Invasion now doesn't have to exile another gryllus to Baphomet this round, and also gets the Capture spellbook immediately. Cthulhu won't be able to get out Cthulhu round two! Is this terrible? But Cthulhu has 8 doom and an elder sign. That elder sign is a 3 btw. Cthulhu has 11 doom round one, but can't get out Cthulhu round two.

I don't know if that's good or bad, but then that's probably the sign of something interesting taking place, isn't it

There was a skirmish in South Atlantic, and Invasion got run out although he didn't lose any units.

Cthulhu virtually has to tap out to get out the GOO, but with 2 power left, this is enough to go attack Invasion for a spellbook. Black Goat then takes advantage with a nasty double Avatar

Alright I realize something now that I need to do. It's funny how round four is where you really see stuff.

What Invasion needs to is get larvae onto portents, and it wants to get four there, but the thing is it doesn't want to only move four at a time to there. That's too expensive. Plus, with Invasion getting these free 2-power turns, it needs a strat that uses 2 power at a time.

My first thought had been well send teams of a fiend + a larvae, and then pay the big costs next time. But that's no good either, because you're sitting around waiting and you're just Cthulhu's victim. Or somebody else's victim if we have different opponents. So this is taking too long. Invasion did just manage to level up one of them in round four, but not the other yet. And it just doesn't look like it'll even happen in round five. This is too slow.

What Invasion needs to do is own the entire path from its start to the next portent. It needs to claim that as its road, with monsters all along that road, and then it can relay larvae through that road even at low power. Once it relays a fourth larvae onto the portent, leveling it up into a Lord's Shadow is free. So Invasion has to just dominate the entire road there

Which if you think about it is just like how the demons eat up a continuous swath of the map in Planet Apocalypse

Everyone battles for the North Atlantic, but luck favors Cthulhu, even when Invasion had had more dice (Baphomet was there).

The other two bots just aren't as good as Cthulhubot

I would stop here -- Invasion needs to allow another faction to have a gate on the road, because Invasion just isn't equipped to purge the road over and over -- but I'm curious about Baphomet's Fury

I think it worked out OK in that game but only because it was a 3-player game -- in a game with 5 or 6 players, it'll be no good

So, they're not going to give any cultists until they've gotten out their GOO(s)

Ahahaha it's been a long time. But let's watch lines of text play Cthulhu Wars against one another again.

After two rounds, Cthulhu and Black Goat are about ready to start playing. Invasion is already playing, though -- Baphomet has moved into Europe from the North American start space, and is starting to level up a portent.

Oh uh Invasion should have one gryllus in North America, I messed that up

Baphomet may be shaped like a wall, but he has run into the wall that is Shub. It's going to take more dice in the space before Invasion will attack. Cthulhu, meanwhile, is playing Economic Cthulhu, which makes for plenty of power and doom but not much combat. That will have to change. Black Goat is just being typical Black Goat.

The battles for Asia were bloody and frequent

Cthulhu now has the upper hand after realizing a completed ocean strat

I changed the instruction for Invasion's road-making in the middle of the game, but at a point where it shouldn't have affected the outcome. Even if it did, I'm just testing anyway. Invasion no longer cares about the wake of its travel

That's game, Cthulhu during the doom phase with 33 doom, despite Eclipse. Invasion and Black Goat contending over Asia too much to get off the ground. Bots probably need a "leave Invasion alone in the early game" vector so that they and Invasion don't MAD

The idea of having Crawling Chaos not get out Nyarlathotep until round three is a failure, I think. It just doesn't gain you enough momentum.

Black Goat looking strong, taking the doom-for-cultist deal from Invasion seems really good

BG stomping the other two, but Invasion's Eclipse ability that causes everyone to gain zero doom during a doom phase (once per game) slows down the game enough to keep it going. All of BG's elder signs are 1s -- Invasion has another ability called Heliocentrism that causes it to draw several elder signs at a time and pick the highest when gaining elder signs, and this has given Invasion multiple 3s. Invasion has actually had more elder signs than this, but revealed some earlier.

Invasion's correspondingly bad doom total is due to spending doom to attack. Probably a bad habit.

Black Goat wins with 33. It should be noted that Invasion is at 29. I had tried a few games with Invasion -- this is the first time it has gotten all six spellbooks, and played halfway competently.

I wasn't good about Baphomet's Fury. I realize now that Invasion wants to base the game around it once it has all six spellbooks. If Invasion has Fury, make a weak attack to lose it deliberately. If an opponent has Fury, attack that opponent with a lone (indestructible!) Baphomet and get Fury back. This generates a bunch of doom.

Also, Invasion has to be super careful about attacking with Baphomet otherwise, because of the 1 doom cost. This is terrible, and Invasion could have been at 30. Some attacks you normally would make need to be withheld.

It's really hard to use and I haven't figured out how to make it win games yet, although it did pretty good last game
