i've played a few rapid games today and i'm doing much better than i've ever done before by having my #1 focus be avoiding big mistakes
i just played a game
3 inaccuracies
1 mistake
0 blunders
25 Average centipawn loss
91% Accuracy
and i am pretty pleased with those numbers. like yeah i don't really know how to play good chess very well, but i avoided blundering and then they blundered a knight even though they were 1667 on lichess
edit: 1657 is definitely the highest my rapid rating has ever been

i've been trying to improve at middlegames (aka Chess, heh). just watched this video and it felt like it was a tipping point for my conceptual framework.
the base of the pyramid is tactics/calculation. if i don't understand strategy very well but i never open myself up to tactics and every time my opponent opens themselves up to tactics i pounce on it, i'm going to be pretty highly rated. conversely, i'm not going to get very far if i have a great understanding of strategy but etc
strategy is the next level of the pyramid. but the thing that i've always struggled with is, in position X the best strategy is Y, ok, but if you hand me some middlegame position (that's not just some forcing tactical problem to be solved) how do i think strategically about it? and obviously it's not like there's One Weird Trick and boom, now you understand strategy. but i think the place to start is piece quality - i.e. how can you improve your pieces or make their pieces worse. and again in truth it's this mega-complicated thing with pawn structure and a million sometimes-applicable-sometimes-break-them heuristics and not all plans are about piece activity (e.g. pushing a passed pawn or attacking their king). but whereas before i felt like i was just drowning in a sea of complexity, now i feel like i have a place to start

playing blitz games is easy because it feels like there's no ego on the line. dumbest blunder ever? well it was blitz. i should play rapid games instead and not have an ego

been winning some and losing some playing rapid. i've learned that i really need to be in the mood to focus or else i don't enjoy it. feels so satisfying to play games like this

very pleased with this (rapid) game. i'm still at the level where the key is to just not make dumb mistakes and let them beat themselves.
one thing that's difficult about chess is often you end up in an attacking/defending mindset but you need to be looking for both offensive/defensive moves at all times. in this game they sac'd the exchange to damage the pawn structure around my king, and the two mistakes were playing unnecessary defensive moves when i should have instead played an offensive move. yes my king was exposed, but he didn't actually have an immediate threat

I think that's a bit strong, Ke7 gives the rooks more space on the 8th row. I can see why Qb6 is better, but Ke7 looks natural to me. You have a winning endgame, small improving moves are a good way to convert.
I'm sure Qb6 is a better move, but I think you were thinking in the right direction.
