Sell all my Tesla stock for $6272, -10 transaction fee, +90 cash = $6352
Buy 55 shares of Amazon for 6270 + 10 transaction fee, leaving me with $72

(Tesla is now obviously overvalued. I think Amazon has a lot of potential. It's important to time the market.)

Astonishingly, timing the market did not work out as well as I had anticipated.

Uh, stick with Amazon I guess! No sales or purchases.

When people sell, and then the stock continues to go up, they feel as bad as if they had panic sold after the stock went down

They shouldn't

sell all my retrophin stock, and buy 47 shares of madoff stock

+$3565 for sale
-$3901 for purchase
-$20 transaction fees

so i pay $356 out of cash in hand, so im down to $44 cash in hand and 71 shares of madoff

i'm trusting my spreadsheet calculated that all correctly

They shouldn't
what yes they should
No

If I sell a stock that continues to go up after my selloff, this by itself only means bad feels. It doesn't prove anything

Because I did something with the selloff money, didn't I

Money you could have made but didn't only feels like money you lost. It isn't actually money you lost

I don't buy that either

If I buy a stock at 100, and sell off at 110, and then that stock goes to 120, wow, I feel terrible. Except, no I don't, because I took my 110 money and bought a different stock that was at 90 and went to 100

90 to 100 is a bigger increase than 110 to 120. If two stocks are going to go up the same, you want the cheaper one

what im saying is that people don't feel bad if they sell stock A and buy stock B if stock A goes up and stock B goes up more

for example, in this exact case, i'm pretty sure ashenai made less money, so feeling bad is ok

I just don't think people should have the same regret when not making money as they have when blowing money

predicting which stocks will go up after you buy them and which will stop going up after you sell them is equally hard

also im pretty sure you're asking yourself to be psychic when you invest in something, the stock goes down, and you feel bad about it, too
