How fucking dare they not call it a Pasta Pint?Soldiers that do not receive their “pasta point” may immediately become “disorganized,” rendering them useless in the field. It’s a fact of life really: if the Italians can’t boil their pasta, the Italians may desert.

Re: Board Games
My partner got me a "Murder Mystery Puzzle", curiously named since you're supposed to find the combination to a safe anyway. I'm about 25% done with the puzzle and have solved the mystery. It's a fun puzzle, so I'm gonna finish it up anyway, with the hope that what I found is a red herring.
Since it's a mystery, they can't show you the puzzle itself, which leads to doing a 500 piece puzzle with no picture. I think it's really engaging, a little tougher than a 500 piece, but in a different way than a 1000 piece is more challenging.
Edit: 2000 piece puzzles are like the "Game mode == Hard? Triple the bosses' HP" of challenge scaling

Oof. That packs a lot into a sentenceIt was at this time that I quickly learned I had to keep him happy in order to keep my job. This decision is what started 5 years of sexual, mental, and emotional abuse.

Re: Board Games
I got to play three games of Gods War this weekend. It's really good, and as of this moment we're more interested in it than Cthulhu Wars, mostly because of enjoying the learning curve
I won the first game, as Sea. Do you hear that, Sea
I played almost purely economically, and came from not-first to surprise win. Salt was in the air (sea salt). Sandy Petersen says that Sea starts off in the lead and then falters. I don't see that at all. I have to wonder if he was talking about the wrong faction. For us, Sea has trouble starting, and then has a much better mid- and late game due to two of the "spellbooks" being granted by virtue of the Chaos Rift closing (in other words, automatically). It seems to be the sneak out a win faction due to all the runes it earns, which often have hidden VP. Also, Sea's buildings get cheaper late game. I don't see the "early game advantage" at all
The second game we all got stomped out by my friend playing Moon. Just pulverized. We weren't ready for his rocket start. It was so bad that we all agreed that we should concede so that we had time for another game. Then we played again with the same factions to save time, although me (Chaos, in a miserable performance) and the guy playing Sky switched.
Game three as Sky I led the entire game. Sky is really mean. I convinced the Invisible God player to let me out of Hell round one, in return for me giving him 2 power and a rune in round two (Sky can't give these things out round one). By the end of the game the Chaos player was still salty about that having happened. Although TBH it was his (Chaos) fault that I won, not I.G.'s, because Chaos and I.G. kept up a tit-for-tat skirmish the entire game instead of doing anything about me.
Also if you can pay 1 power to move Moon's phase marker at the worst possible time to mess Moon up, do it
I actually convinced Chaos to give me 2 VPs during the Great Compromise instead of the minimum 1 in return for me passing control of the Great Compromise to him -- our Great Compromises were very compromisy, with a bunch of negotiation occurring over them. I'm sure that's how it's supposed to be. I keep seeing people on BGG saying that their Great Compromises are just, the first player controls it and gives out VP purely "I get the most and the person losing gets second most etc" which should be wrong due to getting ganked by everyone for being in the lead
Anyway, in a four-player game, I don't see how it's the fault of the player in last that the winning player was in first. It's the other two guys' fault

Re: Board Games
Mondrian is a game invented by Sid Sackson. It appears in his book "Beyond Tic Tac Toe." The game consists of coloring in spaces in an abstract shape of rectangular frames.
Normally, the board starts out white, and the players color it in with four different colors. However, I consider it more appropriate to have the players play white, blue, red, and yellow. This means we have to have a nonwhite default color, such as grey.
This game is super-easy to understand.
- On your turn, you must color in an uncolored area using your color.
- You must color in an area next to a previously colored area. Touching at a point does not count as next to.
- However, you may never color in an area next to an area that's already your color. Again, touching at a point does not count as next to.
- Whenever you color in an area and this forms a rectangle of two or more colored-in areas, you score points equal to the number of colored-in areas that constitute the rectangle. If your selection forms more than one such rectangle, you only score for the rectangle that consists of the greatest number of spaces.
I made this board by just drawing arbitrary rectangles, but it occurs to me that I probably should have ensured that the number of spaces ended up divisible by four. Anyone can make a board for this game
