i am pleased with this dumb joke that i made
it's basically a netrunner version of "wizards bans Island", which i think was an article on MT or ML or something at some point?

(Joke B: DEFUND ICE)
Re: netrunner
they did actually end up just banning some of the good ice
now there are other issues, but it does feel nice for those cards to be goneSlot Machine is banned.
Engram Flush is banned.
Fairchild 3.0 is banned.

Gachapon is very good in decks that have sufficient targets, which isn't super hard to do - Rezeki, Paladin Poemu (all of the companions are virtual resources - it's thematic!), DreamNet

Loot Box is pretty bad; compare Special Offer

gachapon seems like it would be great if you hit reliably yeah, that's two free credits

Re: netrunner
the secret of gambling is to always win
Re: netrunner
It's not two free credits, because it costs an action to draw (which you could have used to get at least 1 credit, possibly more) and an action to install (which you also could have used to get 1+ credits). So its best case is credit-neutral.Jeb Bush 2012 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 7:12 pm gachapon seems like it would be great if you hit reliably yeah, that's two free credits
The very first trick to evaluating Netrunner cards is to mentally add 2 to the cost of every card.
Re: netrunner
wait no I'm totally wrong because it draws and installs a card, Jeb is right
Re: netrunner
The second trick to evaluating Netrunner cards is to not pay attention to the shit I say
Re: netrunner
also good dig, also thins your deck of things you don't wantJeb Bush 2012 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 7:12 pm gachapon seems like it would be great if you hit reliably yeah, that's two free credits
sometimes you do whiff! but if you play enough targets it doesn't happen that often
and even when you hit, some hits are better than others
sometimes you're mid-run and super hoping for a card that will get you through the current piece of ICE; roll them bones
i get what you're saying, but almost* every card has to be drawn and costs a click to install, so there's not much point to doing that when comparing cards to each other
*paperclip is one counterexample

Re: netrunner
Was he playing Adam, or is Neutralize All Threats played in non-Adam decks?
Re: netrunner
Also I have a rules question about the drawback on that card: how exactly is "if able" evaluated? Like what if you're broke but you have credits on a Miss Bones, does NAT "see" those credits and force you to use them?
Re: netrunner
yes he was playing Adam. NAT outside of Adam is rare (Find the Truth is more common)Ashenai wrote:Was he playing Adam, or is Neutralize All Threats played in non-Adam decks?
if you are able to pay the trash cost then you have to pay the trash cost (so yes, NAT "sees" Bones credits)Ashenai wrote:Also I have a rules question about the drawback on that card: how exactly is "if able" evaluated? the winner will go on to face underwear_sniffer in the finals
Re: netrunner
toby swept the first three rounds, then ID'd the next 3 rounds and ended up in the cut without having to play the tiebreak round, what a champ lol
the tiebreak round is actually a pretty neat format:
all of the pairs of players (8,9 (i.e. the players who finished 8th and 9th respectively)), (7,10), (6,11), (5,12) who have the same number of points play a bo1 for a spot in the cut
so here the tiebreak round is 8vs9 and 7vs10
