1 Elder Shoggoth (terror) cost 4 combat 2
Prime Cause - Post-battle, choose any of your units (you may choose this one) and replace it with another unit from your pool. If the replacing unit is a great old one, you must meet other requirements to place it (e.g. Cthulhu must be in his start area, etc.). If the unit you removed was this one, pay nothing and your opponent gains nothing. Otherwise, pay half the new unit's power cost rounded down; your battle opponent gains 1 doom if the new unit is a terror; and your battle opponent gains 1 elder sign if the new unit is a GOO.

2 Mercury Cats (monster) cost 1 combat 1
Needs Affection - Pre-battle, you may choose one or more of your monsters in the battle, and replace them with acolytes from your pool.

2 Venus Cats (monster) cost 1 combat 1
Honeymoon - Whenever a Venus cat captures a cultist, gain 1 power and return the cultist to its owner's pool (immediately, rather than during the next gather power).

2 Asteroid Cats (monster) cost 1 combat 1
Abandoned to Lusts - As an action that costs 0, if an asteroid cat shares a space with a unit from another faction that has five or fewer spellbooks, remove the asteroid cat from the map and place it on an empty spellbook requirement of that faction. When that faction earns a spellbook for that slot, return the asteroid cat to a gate you control, and you choose which faction spellbook that enemy faction must take for that slot.

1 Neptune Cat (terror) cost 3 combat 3
The Final Ritual - Post-battle, if the Neptune Cat was killed, you may immediately perform a Ritual of Annihilation. (If this moves the marker to Instant Death, the game ends.)

1 Hagarg Ryonis, the Jupiter Cat (Elder God) cost 4 combat 0
Hagar Ryonis adds 3 pains to the results against your opponent in battle.
Subversion - During Determine First Player, choose an opponent. If that player performs a Ritual of Annhiliation this doom phase, you steal 1 of the elder signs that that player would have earned.
Spellbook requirement - You have 0 power.
Spellbook - Laziness - As an action that costs 0, all players with exactly 1 power lose 1 power. Alternatively, as an action that costs 1 power, a Hibernating Windwalker loses 1 power. You may only use this ability if a player has exactly 1 power, or if Windwalker is Hibernating.

The only general use I can figure out is so limited as to be wacky. You can move and attack with all-monster forces, and then if you anticipate winning where there's a gate, you can bring in an acolyte so that you'll be able to take the gate

Special uses:
- If you're Black Goat, you can get ghouls into position (which roll no dice) and then swap in acolytes (Frenzy gives them 1 die each)
- If you have stupid Servitors, which are negative combat, you can blink in acolytes, which at least have zero combat

The text says choose one or more of your monsters, and replace them with your acolyte cultists -- it doesn't say from your pool, actually. They don't mean switching their location i.e. teleporting, do they

EDIT: I now assume they do mean that, which makes this effect very interesting

Like if Windwalker or Yellow Sign have Neptune Cat, be very worried

If Opener has it, that's a nightmare

There's a school of thought where you don't get out Yog during round two -- everyone else is tapping out on round two, and so what you do is go to four gates unopposed

Then in round three you get out Yog, which is gate five. You still haven't Ascended yet. Now you're going to ritual every time

i don’t think people will leave opener at five gates if they don’t ascend

btw there's a similar school of thought where blue doesn't get out Nyarly on round two even if he can afford it

Again, everyone else is tapping out, so why not go to four gates now instead? You weren't going to do anything with Nyarly anyway

Agree, but that's a very advanced meta where Opener (or Tcho-Tchos) deliberately holds back

I just read the term "user balance game." The person meant, a multiplayer game where the balance among sides or factions has to be provided by the players

Well there's a relationship there between the ability to affect the game whatsoever and the ability to wreck other players' games

With most euros, it's hard to interfere with other players very much, except in that you sometimes take the thing they want

Low interference, low politics:
Alhambra, Carcassonne

More interference, more politics:
Catan, 504

Fundamental interference and a baseline constant level of politics:
Cthulhu Wars, Twilight Imperium

Massive interference and massive politics, dangerously close to being an election game:
Dune, Cosmic Encounter

Vote for the winner:
Multiplayer Magic: the Gathering

Another nerf to Sultan -- probably a case of the info having been wrong all this time

I'm reluctant even to say what it is until both current games are over
