Addison Cain was living in Kyoto, volunteering at a shrine and studying indigenous Japanese religion. She was supposed to be working on a scholarly book about her research, but started writing intensely erotic Batman fan fiction instead.

I mean... yeah, obviously.

I don't understand any of the numbers in that article.

First I thought it was just too many zeros. But six and a half kilometres every four hours is a speed of about 1 mph.

either he's sleeping or running 48 hours straight, so an average speed of 1mph isn't that unreasonable

I mean, okay, lightly jogging for 1 hour every 4 hours is a thing. I don't know that I would call it an extraordinary challenge. Interrupting your sleep to jog would be annoying I suppose!

but he's bad at it, so it's not very fast

There's an ironman hiking challenge that's walking 100 km in 24 hours. That's pretty tough! Some friends of mine have done it.

My record is 55 km in just under 10 hours. I was pretty much crying by the end of it. But at no point was I running.

It's off by a factor of 1000; presumably somebody referred to "running seventy eight kay" and this was interpreted as 78,000km rather than 78,000m

78km is a long goddamn way, but sure, it's not exactly newsworthy. If you add thousands of pounds raised to an ultra distance, though, that might be good enough to get a sidebar in the local sports section!

And that's before you factor in that he was running faster than most jets can fly.

The farthest I've ever walked in one shot was 20 miles, which is 32k

I was a kid when I did that, I'm not doing that now lol

It is when it's the village newspaper and the alternative for that column space is "Mrs O'Doyle has had disappointing luck with her nasturtiums so far this year"
