Also note that the original vampire is a nobleman, so there's a bit of a class warfare thing going there

Or maybe it's an economic commentary. Like, we'd all be rich as fuck if we had a bunch of time to accumulate real estate and compound interest. Not to mention the grocery bill savings.

Had a lot of heart and was genuinely funny.

So we watched "Once upon a crime" the other day - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101625/

Reviews were bad, but I thought it was pretty good, and included a couple of simply home run jokes. (Also Cybil Shepherd is hilarious)

Anyway, I thought the ending punchline was fantastic, and it made me wonder what movies have the best punchline. I know that's maybe not a "real concept", but there are movies where the end recontextualizes the whole story in a "Better nate than lever" kind of style. I think Chicago's probably the best one, just based on how fucking awesomely stupid it is, but I'd be interested in hearing others.

I'm not certain I'm following your point here about how the ending contextualizes it, at least w/r/t Chicago, but I do want to offer up that Chicago is probably one of the most highly entertaining movies I have ever seen.

thinking about how legendary wit oscar wilde ended "the importance of being ernest" with the main character turning towards the audience and going "it just goes to show... The Importance of Being Ernest"

Totally agree with you on how entertaining Chicago is.

The first time I watched Chicago, I was swept up in the trials and tribulations of little Roxy Heart and loved it on that level. Over time (it's one of my most watched movies), I've come to appreciate it as a combination of social commentary and farce. The insight on what fame/popularity truly are, combined with just how straight they play into the absurd premise. I don't know how you come up with "The most popular entertainment in the world is lady murderer lounge acts", but it's a brilliant premise.

And that's why I love the punchline
Spoiler!
People eventually grow bored with Lady Murderers. Only to be replaced with the next big thing - TWO LADY MURDERERS.
Like you'd expect the punchline to be something even more absurd, but nope, it's exactly what would happen in real life, the next big thing is a mundane "Malibu Stacy in hat" change...

which is directly from the book
I throw the fourth nut. It doesn’t go quite right. I can’t explain it, but I feel it in my gut—something’s off. I immediately grab Kirill’s hand.

“Stop,” I say. “Don’t move an inch.”

I take the fifth nut and throw it farther and higher. There it is, the bug trap! The nut goes up all right and starts going down fine, but halfway down it looks like someone tugged it off to the side, pulling it so hard that it goes right into the clay and disappears.

“Ever see that?” I whisper.

“Only in the movies,” he says, straining forward so far he almost falls off the boot. “Throw one more, eh?”

Jesus. One more! As if one would be enough. Lord, these scientists! Anyway, I throw out eight more nuts, until I figure out the shape of the trap. To be honest, I could have managed with seven, but I throw one especially for him, right into the center, so he can properly admire his graviconcentrate. It smashes into the clay as i
f it were a ten-pound weight instead of a nut, then goes right out of sight, leaving only a hole in the ground.
