I wonder if some of these delayed projects could actually benefit from a few more months of postproduction.

There's an incredible restoration of the 1927 silent film Napoleon ...

That's only available in UK-region Blu-Ray. Aargh

Mel Gibson is gonna be in a movie called Fatman as Santa Clause who's fighting an assassin who was hired by a twelve year old boy who's upset that he got a lump of coal for christmas. Apparently the trailer just dropped but I don't really need more than that description

You had me at Walton Goggins.

Have you ever watched Justified? In a show packed to the brim with greatness, he’s probably just about the greatest thing there is.

I was really surprised at how much I liked it! I'm not much into Danny McBride, but I loved the Righteous Gemstones top to bottom. Edi Patterson (the daughter) and Tim Baltz (her weird husband) were people I'd already seen in goofy alt-comedy stuff, so it was really neat to see them in a big show like that. And Walton Goggins was terrific, of course.

Heck yes, I've watched Justified. Goggins was the perfect nemesis for Timothy Olyphant, who is turning out to be a lot goofier than I'd assumed from Deadwood and Justified. Judging by Santa Clarita Diet, he enjoys playing a complete goofy dope.

My television pitch is for Jon Hamm and Timothy Olyphant to play complete dumbasses in a ridiculous comedy.

I love, absolutely love, Justified. My people, on either side of the family, are about a generation and a half removed from Harlan.

Justified speaks to me.

i did and not really unfortunately, like really unfortunately. i actually like daniel radcliffe and the premise of the thing was really good, but man ... man, there was just so much wrong with the story, and so many little things. i think maybe many people could look past the little things, because, like, nobody seemed to be with me re black panther and a hundred other movies, but, like, fuck. and worse, worst! i can't even, like, remember the movie to give you examples, which kind of speaks to its quality. they do make some really awful lines on the level of like everyone looks at their cellphones i cant believe im looking at the world in hd 1080p or whatever. and then the cool aesthetic feels put on instead of being sort of natural like a wes anderson movie or i guess crank. i dunno, man. there was a lot wrong

FWIW, you weren't entirely wrong about Black Panther. I think the cultural impact of the first Black superhero film made people more than willing to overlook flaws though. And the flaws weren't all that glaring, I mean, it was at least as good as Doctor Strange and that movie didn't suck. Crossing that bar plus the cultural import is really about all you needed for a watershed film event.

if you're engaged, if you're enjoying the movie then you're not gonna give a shit. and that's fine. and like who gives a shit if they just copy and pasted some guys onto rocks but, like the girl who designed the suit fighting the suit with a weapon that does zero damage to it. come on. come on. it's like trying to stay in your seat during really bad turbulence. and once you're out, the aborted world or whatever, you're pretty much just fucked

but i mean you could just stay positive. like the black panther actor was really good. the villain was good. creed is a really good movie. it's like almost like more fucking disappointing that you have these like really good boxing set pieces and then black panther like, ok, i'm not even complaining coming down hard on or whatever when i ask, like, did people really enjoy the cgi fight between two cgi characters in a cgi underground cgi train station

edit - and black panther is so cool in civil war, man

and i think they even wrecked that with the movie didnt they? because he like, gets powered up for civil war, which he shouldnt because he's not the king -- did they hand wave this, because he's the black panther at the start of the movie too isnt he? -- so he can then get depowered for the start of the movie, so he can get powered up by the flower after the thing, so he can get depowered so he can then immediately get repowered so he can fight the bad guy

and like how do you not do the cool fucking he's at his lowest point, he's been kicked off the mountain he's been stripped of his power but he's going to train in the jungle and become strong and like fucking believe in himself and then with the power of his friends and shit they go kick the super powered bad guys ass and it just like cements how fucking cool the black panther is but nah he's in the snow over there. just give him the flower so we can do the ending

Going to go see Antebellum on Wednesday, looks like a good October movie.
Also discovering Janelle Monáe - digging her 2010 album ArchAndroid.

Bring on the kung-fu amputees - no arms vs. no legs anyone? A bit of high-speed underground ninja-tunneling is always good as well. I wanna see some shit like that. Crazy monks with gnarly special powers can make any film good. FACT.

I don't know where the TV thread is but S1 of The Boys was pretty good but I'm halfway through S2 and it is a let-down.
