Vanity Fair Article on the Snyder cut.

The article is worth reading on its own for some of the behind-the-scenes stuff that was going on. It's also fairly personal as it delves into his daughter's suicide, which is a tragedy that no parent should ever have to endure.

None of that is why I'm posting it though. Brace yourself for a still of Leto's Joker:
Spoiler!

Worst of all, for Warner Bros., Whedon didn’t exactly save the movie. “When we got to see what Joss actually did, it was stupefying,” says a studio executive, who requested anonymity. “The robber on the rooftop—so goofy and awful. The Russian family—so useless and pointless. Everyone knew it. It was so awkward because nobody wanted to admit what a piece of shit it was.”

Right?

I actually give Snyder a lot of credit for vision. He is very good at putting together visually stunning vistas, and that is an impressive talent. He just doesn't understand his characters and he's not good at plot. It's frustrating to watch his stuff, because it is so close to being good. His two best films were Watchmen and Man of Steel. The first he was constrained to a pre-existing and very dense plot. The second he was working with an absolute master story teller.

I'm probably going to watch the Snyder cut for the spectacle of the thing, but it's going to be a four hour chunk that is going to desperately need a good editor.

Agreed, he's good at raw visual stuff and bad at putting real heart into his visual stuff (or characters)

This is an old article, about whether the Star Trek movie "Into Darkness" was originally going to be about Gary Mitchell instead of Khan, and was rewritten to be Khan. I had always thought it was -- there are some clues to this, including that the title "into darkness" finishes the phrase "Where no man has gone before," the title of the Gary Mitchell episode.

https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/star-t ... -mitchell/

But the Alice Eve stuff, I had never thought of that before. Her hair in the movie really is the same as Sally Kellerman's hair from the Gary Mitchell episode.

Anyway, old article, but you might find it interesting.

Avengers: Endgame is going to lose its current title of "highest-grossing movie" by the end of this weekend. Can you guess what movie will take the title next, without looking it up?

(The answer is pretty weird! Very guessable but I'll be impressed if anyone gets it.)

we watched nomadland yesterday. it was good!

the director has made three films so far, and from looking at their synopses they all seem to be in a similar kind of genre (like, low-key dramas set in the american southwest). so I did a double-take when I saw that her next project is a marvel movie

That's their thing generally. Marvel finds promising and/or underrated directors and give them a chance. So far it's worked out well.

I'd put it in the top 20 of comic book movies but not in the top 10. It's certainly better than the theatrical version, but then it would almost have to be

He's not properly in the movie at all, he's in a post-credits scene

They put the Clockwork Orange guys in Space Jam 2 instead (I don't really know how to make this not sound like a joke, but it's real, they took out pepe le pew and added the clockwork orange guys)
