It has nothing on The Incredibles. But to each their own, it's just not one of my favorite Pixar movies.

We saw Parasite in a theater tonight. I liked it, really thought provoking movie. But I'm not convinced the genre change in act 3 really worked. The first two acts were incredible and I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it all seemed a little implausible. I think I liked 1917 better overall.

Yeah, the movie was very good, but it somewhat devolved into nonsense. Not even just talking about the genre shift, contrivances also start to show up.

when the movie wants to set up the final events, we suddenly get a bunch of scenes where the rich family are irritating the poor family despite the rest of the film depicting all of those relationships as having the poor people in control, and seemingly loving it.

i agree that the there's a point in parasite where up to that point everything is super tight and fits perfectly, and it's like "ok now where do you go from here?", and what follows is not as tight

I think there's a bunch going on with the dialogue that doesn't it make it through the translation. I know someone was saying when the two people were calling each other "Sis", they were using different words for it with different connotations that signal a meaningful difference.

Like, having sat through Let's Mosey, my sense is that ANY translation is going to lose nuance and meaning even with an amazing translator just because it's not possible to bring everything across without pausing to explain things all the time*.

*(Translator's Note: It can be done but the fact that you had to stop and read this to reach the full conclusion while others can move on mean you're not experiencing the same thing that native speakers did since the pacing is all messed up now)

The movie makes more sense once you understand that everyone in the movie is terrible

The best translators can "translate" the nuance and meaning. It won't be the same as the original, but it'll have the same effect on the reader. This is extremely hard to do and very underappreciated. Weebs will absolutely crucify a good literary translation, because they see any deviation from the strict meaning of the kanji as abomination. This is why you can usually identify a fan-translation as originally Japanese, because a fan-translator is unwilling to move away from set Japanese phrases that sound unnatural in English, which is why people in anime keep saying shit like "It can't be helped" and "As expected from the class president!" even though nobody talks like that in English and it sounds extremely stupid.

To some degree but there's always limitations.
