I only just now found out that profligate was not profilgate, after I tried to use it in a sentence and I got the red underline

You're thinking of proflifergate, which is paying 5 to put an additional counter on a card.

I was thinking about how "perfect" has a different pronunciation as an adjective vs as a verb, which allows you to use the adjective-pronunciation as a verb to coney a slightly different word than the verb-pronunciation
As in: I'm just glad to have finished the level for now. I'll go back and perfect that level later

Re: thats a word, huh?
I thought 'earnest' meant like, sincere, or honest
But it doesn't? Apparently it means intense/serious as opposed to flippant/jest. Dang I've had this word wrong for a long time

earnest adjective
1 : characterized by or proceeding from an intense and serious state of mind
2 : GRAVE, IMPORTANT
earnest noun
1 : a serious and intent mental state
a proposal made in earnest
2 : a considerable or impressive degree or amount

Also he goes to camp and saves Christmas and stuff
Re: thats a word, huh?
You didn't have it wrong exactly, that definition is just missing "earnestly" or "in earnest", which is what you were thinking of. The meaning of those constructions is subtly different from the root word.
You wouldn't necessarily say "he's an earnest person" to mean "he's an honest person": if I asked you if Ted stole my stapler, you wouldn't tell me "no, Ted wouldn't do that, he's very earnest." That's not exactly what the word evokes, right? But you would say "he spoke very earnestly" to mean "he spoke from the heart, in an honest way".

Re: thats a word, huh?
although I do still think the adjective form should have "honest" as a synonym. I don't think there's a real difference in meaning between "an earnest effort" and "an honest effort".
