There's a bizarre vector of don't wear masks/don't test a vaccine/there's nothing we can do
Well, that and the fact that we're back to the heist thread if you want a mask in north america right now.

I just can't believe how stupid I was that I was stocking up on food well before the panicking people started and there were gloves/masks available, but I was like 'man, that is silly, I'm not going to wear masks and gloves if somebody in our house gets sick, so I have no use for these.'

Now, I would definitely like some. I need to do a run to the office at some point in the next couple days, and I'd love to have some mask/gloves to wear when I do it, since people are still going in during the days. At this point I'm going to wait until Sunday night and I guess wear some winter gloves and a scarf around my face like an idiot?

What's going to happen if we open everything up and then cases start spiking again, though? I mean, I agree that it's unreasonable to stay locked down until the virus is all gone, but it's not like the economy would be fine and it's the lockdowns that are killing it. People still aren't going to want to go to restaurants or to the movies in the middle of an outbreak.

Technically speaking, everyone building genetic trees for this coronavirus outbreak could be referred to as Branch Covidians.

Gonna drop this in the work chat and see how fast I get threatened with a ban again.

yeah im going to get my wife to make cloth/denim ones, and just fold it over a couple times. 60% is better than 0%

i don't want to hurt the supply of surgical masks to doctors/nurses, and those ones aren't reusable so

Prediction: When someone announces they've developed a vaccine, you're going to see a bunch of people who normally would not be anti-vaxxers suddenly expressing doom-and-gloom skepticism about a vaccine

i am definitely going to be more skeptical of a vaccine that has been rushed out in response to a crisis than ones that have been around for a while

i wouldn't describe my feelings as "doom-and-gloom", though. maybe they will indeed develop an effective vaccine! but you know, something something replication crisis something something years of evidence etc

The silver lining of how we're handling covid is that by the time we'd theoretically have a vaccine, herd immunity will be a thing, so it won't really need to be rushed anymore.

That seems pretty wild. But I mean, if your lungs fail, I don't really know what to expect.

I read someone on Twitter saying they were intubated, and that it felt like suffocating because they couldn't breathe. But oxygen was still getting in.
