Almost done with Ozark. Definitely thinking that "Silly Breaking Bad" is a better descriptor than "Breaking Bad Lite" now that I'm almost done, but it's probably worth watching? I'm not sure.

I really enjoyed it, & it actually goes somewhere over the three (?) seasons. Vaguely looking forward to the next season, if it happens.

i thought ozark season 3 was great! the new character/story line was good and developed the other characters well. the ending was fantastic.

season 2 looked like it was starting to go off the rails, and i was losing interest, but season 3...wow, good job show writers/runners/actors.

I have also been doing this, and it's good but I would appreciate some floating tooltips to remind me of who is who and who they're related to at any given time

three episodes into space force and its mostly not that great. its just sort of...(i hate using this but) cringey. i also dont buy steve carrel as a general at all. his voice feels fake and the casting seems wrong (incidentally all the other generals feel like great casting).

everything involving the chimpanzee in episode two was really good, though. if its able to deliver a couple more bits like that itll be worth the watch. its enough to keep me going to episode 4.

It seemed from commercials to be a show sparked by the phrase "space force" and not much else

it is a season long trump joke, which incidentally has one of the best comedic casts on tv.

Are you old enough to remember when Bush was elected and Comedy Central made a show, "That's My Bush!" starring Timothy Bottoms

Sounds similar, single-joke show, great cast (Timothy Bottoms did an amazing Bush impersonation)

Oh right so a funny thing about that is, that show was developed by the South Park guys, who had begun development on it before the 2000 election. They had thought Al Gore was sure to win, so they had begun development of the series based on the idea that Al Gore would be the main character. And of course they had to start over upon the election

This same thing happened to them in 2016 when they had assumed Hillary would win the election and had started development of South Park episodes based on that

its got a bit of an identity crisis thing going on too. the bent is clearly "space force is a ridiculous concept," and they riff on that all the episodes i watched. then in episode three the john malkovich character, who is the uber-smart, calm, progressive scientist, explains exactly why space force is something which is kind of a good idea to have.

That's the exact sequence that people go through in their heads in real life

1. Space Force pffft are you kidding me
2. I mean gimme a break it's so dumb
3. Well wait it wouldn't be dumb if this that and the other thing
4. You know now that I think about it there might be reasons that it makes a little sense

I thought with That's My Bush! the deal was that they developed shows for Bush or Gore winning so they'd be ready either way. With Hillary/Trump, they definitely had to rewrite almost an entire episode in a day.

I don't think they filmed anything until 2001, but the initial development had the developmental title Everybody Loves Al

Well, they got lucky, because like you said, the guy who played Bush was great. Checking IMDB, I see he played Bush a few other times, but unless those roles were also parodies of sitcoms, I think he was wasted.

Also: whoa! You know the movie Johnny Got His Gun, about a guy who gets all his limbs shot off? It's what the video for Metallica's One was made of. Timothy Bottom played the main guy! That's him flailing around in the Metallica video. He's also the alleged lead The Last Picture Show, although I personally could not take my eyes off young Cybill Shepherd and Jeff Bridges, so I have no memory of his character. Fun career.

Oh he's in The Paper Chase, which is great

And I remember he was in this police movie called Rollercoaster about a terrorist bombing roller coasters. What a weird premise. I saw this movie but I don't remember it really

Apparently he's the villain in the Man in the Iron Mask film? I haven't seen that. I don't see how that's going to stack up against Patrick McGoohan in the same role in the TV one

The Man in the Iron Mask (1998) movie he's in isn't the one with DiCaprio, which I thought was pretty good. When casting for four aging musketeers teaming up for one last job, Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich, Gabriel Byrne, and Gerard Depardieu are a great start. I'm surprised that's the only time Depardieu's played Porthos.
