What I Learned Today

Hawkins, the soldier in Predator who keeps making bad jokes about his wife, is Shane Black

Also, the predator's voice is Optimus Prime

Man, ol' Op is in so much good stuff... Peter Cullen, what a dude. Eeyore, the Predator, Mario. Amazing.

I was just learning about this too, because RLM talked about it in their episode of Re:View. Apparently he was brought in to punch up the script, but maybe what ended up happening is that he just got wirtten into the movie to deliver some good Shane Black lines

The new Predator should maybe probably be good? Like Iron Man 3 was actually pretty great but most everybody hates it, I guess

Until recently, France has never had a legal age of consent or an offence of statutory rape.

Bridge on the River Kwai is considered both a British film and an American film, and is on both the American Film Institute's and British Film Institute's top domestic film lists

Only one way to settle this - is the gruel they feed to the prisoners made from corn, or maize

I'm not sure -- Wikipedia only has the fact of it and not the explanation

Apparently it comes from a podcast I haven't listened to yet

I have a new favourite piece of Breaking Bad trivia: Gus Fring was originally written as merely a polite, face value guest character that would be in an episode or two but Giancarlo Esposito deliberately played him as if he was hiding secrets in order to ensure the character would be made into a more important role, eventually becoming the primary antagonist.

Rolls-Royce is currently the only company in the world manufacturing engines that allow fighter jets to take off vertically.

The word "dope" for drugs comes from the Dutch word for gravy. The opium mixture smoked in opium dens was a liquid, and the term "dope-fiend" has been seen as far back as the 1800s

Evelyn Venable was the model for the Blue Fairy in the 1940 Pinocchio cartoon, but also the model for Columbia in the Columbia Pictures logo

When she stopped acting around age 30, she went back to UCLA and taught ancient Greek and Latin
