Re: sports
i would still bet on Mahomes winning at least two more super bowls. he's so good. though idk maybe he'll suffer from his contract limiting the team around him. and injuries are always a possibility

I was just listening to the news and they mentioned that the final report on Kobe Bryant’s death last January is in.
The only thing I could think was, it was just last year?
It feels like that happened four or five years ago.

Pour like Hemingway's last call.
Re: sports
yeah, its pretty crazy.
i went to a game that day (blazers vs. pacers), and it feels like a lifetime ago we were able to go to events like that.

Specifically, Kobe's lifetime ago
wow, [you]. that all sounds terrible. i hope it gets better for you
Re: sports
The biggest thing I took out of that game is how singular Mahomes is. Those were some of the most incredible passes I've ever seen - I couldn't even imagine throws like that in an NFL game before Mahomes.
"GOAT" as a colloquialism for most titles is a reasonable interpretation to me.

Are individual players as dominating in hockey or soccer as they are in basketball?

Re: sports
Sometimes I think about really simple answers to sports questions nobody asks, and try to come up with something that at least seems plausible to me, a person who knows nothing about sports
The exercise is kinda to make the most correct answer in Idunno less than 10 words
Why are pitchers dominant? They start with the ball
Why are quarterbacks dominant? They start with the ball*
Why are individual players in the NBA dominant? Only one player can have the ball at a time
Why aren't individual players in hockey or soccer as dominant as basketball players? Less direct control of the ball

Re: sports
I would guess it's mostly because it's harder to score in those games, but I would say players can still be domininant. If you watched Luka Modric in the last world cup, he was basically the Tom Brady of his team distributing the ball around the field. It's just that once he makes a stellar pass across the field, they don't get 3 consolation points when the forward's shot hits the post.
Re: sports
soccer
*the field is so big that any one player isn't going to
*the scoring event is very rare (so more variance / superior skill doesn't translate into better outcomes as reliably)
hockey
*the scoring event is somewhat rare
*an individual player is in the game for a smaller percentage of game time
*actually i wonder if goalies might flip this - if your goalie is dominant that is a big deal
basketball
*it's easy for one player can dominate the ball on offense. the defense can double-team them, but that creates a 4-on-3 for their teammates
*an individual player can play almost all of the game time
*an individual player can also have a big effect on defense
*the scoring event is common

If I had to guess, I'd guess that he violated some specific policy about talking to reporters. But I'm just guessing here
