Maybe. That's such a significant stumbling block, though.
I mean I just boot into windows if I want to play games and use linux whenever I'm working
it's especially handy ~in these times~ since booting out of ubuntu and into windows is the "I'm not working any more" line

that's actually kind of a good idea if you don't have / can't have a dedicated workspace
what if you run windows in linux though

My mom uses one I think, Thunderbird. It seems okay. I have no idea why you'd want it.

the biggest sticking point for me here is that logging into one google service logs you into all google services. I don't want to be logged into youtube ever!!

Well, yes.
I mean, Google doesn't want you logged out ever. That's the point of their existence, to keep you logged in.

Have you checked out the Linux subsystem for Windows?

I have not, I'm told it's a big improvement over the old solutions for doing linux stuff in windows (cygwin!) but since I only use windows for gaming nowadays it doesn't really come up

It's pretty good. I've only worked with V1 and I'm not much of a Linux guy (I really do need the OpenSSL tool set to effectively manage certs though) but it is far superior to Cygwin. Apparently V2 of the subsystem heavily leverages Hyper-V, but I've not checked it out yet, it wasn't in GA when I built up my cert management server.

I have no idea what the legal underpinnings on this are, so I have no way to evaluate the likelihood.
