i've been keeping some stuff in a codepad.org tab. if stuff goes wrong i can recover it with typio
but codepad.org appears to be gone and i can't use typio because of that
hubris, punished
typio says it stores data on your local machine so there's probably a way to get at it, but i haven't been able to figure it out

Relying on tabs to save state just seems like asking for trouble, then trying to manage that trouble by installing extensions seems like asking for more trouble

I wouldn't say you deserve it but I do find the thought of anyone storing data that way deeply distressing

2018: "Your data is saved locally but it is still managed by Google chrome. You can view the database for a specific site in chrome developer tools. That is just asking for an integrity and availability fail. Confidentiality too for that matter (browser extensions!).

Yeah I didn't think he actually deserved it. I don't even get the concept of deserving things, good or bad, really
I'm kind of an outlier as a programmer, I don't give a shit if I lose code I wrote recently. I'll just rewrite it, quicker and better

Re: Google makes everything worse
It is true that stuff saved using chrome.storage does not show up in developer tools, there you can only see stuff saved using regular localStorage API. Do this:
Open your extension's background page by going to chrome://extensions/ ("Developer mode" needs to be checked to see background pages)
Go to the Console tab and type this:
chrome.storage.local.get(function(result){console.log(result)})
This will spit the whole storage as a JSON object into the console
Re: Google makes everything worse
that thing spits out data for local storage, but i don't see it for codepad.org or the data i care about for mtglitch. so next thing to try is how do i split out the data for IndexedDB
u gotta skate
Re: Google makes everything worse
oh wait actually i do see the data i care about for mtglitch. which i think means that the data i am looking for is gone : (
edit: and that's the tea actually i'm not sure

Re: Google makes everything worse
my idea for a weird hail mary play was to maybe go to an archive.org version of the codepad website and then just maybe trick the app into thinking it's there
Re: Google makes everything worse
i tried that and it doesn't work because it's a different domain

you could host a fake webpage and put the domain//127.0.0.1 into the hosts file
