This isn't that bold a statement, as it is also true of regular monopoly

Doug wrote: Wed Sep 11, 2019 1:19 pm Apparently, Monopoly Socialism triggers people
Wouldn't this be social justice monopoly? Socialist monopoly would have like, tiles getting nationalised or something. I don't know the monopoly rules well so I don't know what bit would actually change
Actual rules differences in the actual game Monopoly Socialism

- The board is smaller, with only eight spaces on a side. All color groups have two properties
- The dice are different. Rather, one die is normal, but the other die has sides 2, 3, 4, x2, draw 1, draw 2. The draws refer to Chance cards.
- Many Chance cards do not take effect immediately, but instead can be held by the player and played as a "take that" against someone else. Only one Chance card may be held at a time, however (if you draw two, or draw any when you are holding one, you must immediately throw away cards until you are back down to one)
- Some Chance cards however say Play Immediately. These are generally bad, and demand money
- Players start with zero dollars. But this doesn't mean players can't do anything, as you will see
- In addition to the bank, there's a Community Fund that starts with $1848.
- When a player has to pay anything, even voluntarily (such as purchasing a property), the player only pays what he's able -- the rest comes from the Community Fund
- If the Community Fund has to pay for something and can't, everyone loses (the normal way this would happen would be due to unanticipated Chance cards that demand money)
- If you do not wish to purchase a property, it is auctioned off as in regular Monopoly -- however, unlike regular Monopoly, the player who landed on the property cannot bid
- Every time a player passes Go, all players get $50, $5 of each of which goes to the Community Fund
- There are no houses or hotels. Instead, properties have development circles on them. Properties in the first row have one circle; properties in the second row have two; and so on
- On your turn, you may develop -one- property you own by playing one of your development tokens onto the property, and paying the development cost written on the property, which is a high amount
- When you land on an owned property, even your own, you may develop that property by playing one of your development tokens onto the property, and paying the owner of the property a mere $10 (or the bank, if the property is yours) (This is the preferred, unselfish way to develop properties)
- When you land on a fully developed property, you pay nothing. Instead, the bank pays the owner of the property the reward listed on the property, and also pays the Community Fund the same amount. This reward is higher if the player has both properties of the color group (Note: getting money to go from the bank to the players and Community Fund is fundamentally good for the group, and is how the players keep everyone from losing)
- If a player has to pay to get out of jail due to being there three turns, it is all other players who must collectively pay the bank $50. (If they can't pay, then the money would come from the Community Fund, as above)
- If a player gets 10 development tokens onto properties, regardless of whose, that player wins

My favorite version of Monopoly by a mile is Mega. Mega is actually a great game

- The board is larger, 13 spaces on a side. All color groups are at least three properties each, and some are four (Boardwalk, Park Place, and Florida!)
- There is a third die, and you roll all three. The third die has sides 1, 2, 3, Monopoly Man, Monopoly Man, Bus
- When you roll a number on the third die, you just add it. When you roll a Monopoly Man, you take a double turn. Your first turn is normal, and uses the normal dice. On your second turn, the Monopoly Man sends you to the next property no one owns. If all properties are owned, he sends you to the next property you don't own (This greatly speeds up the game)
- When you roll a bus, you take a bus pass in addition to your turn. You may spend a bus pass on a future turn to avoid rolling the dice at all, and instead go to any space ahead of you in the row you're on (including the corner space)
- You no longer have to have an entire color group to develop it. You only have to have more than half of the properties
- If you develop a partial color group, but then acquire the property you didn't have, you cannot further develop the ones you already had until the new one is "caught up"
- Beyond hotels, there are now skyscrapers. Skyscrapers are extremely deadly (I have killed people with skyscrapers on Mediterranean and Baltic many times)

It's your turn in Demon Wars
It's your turn in Wall Street Wars

I don't like "The horse raced past the barn fell" because nobody would ever say "The horse raced past the barn" instead of "The horse that was raced past the barn"
