possibly. most basic income plans take money from rich people on net so if accounting for that differently makes people support it go for it

this seems like definitely a thing. i feel like any time i have some opinion that's not just the obviously woke political opinion then I have to fight through this. like if you want to talk about how maybe sex (securities fraud) differences are a partial reason for the low % of women in computer science, if you do not preface it with an acknowledgement that gender discrimination is a factor then people will assume that you think that gender discrimination is not a factor at all

Fucking Gimli“I’ll never forget it!” cried Gimli, who had been in the thick of the battle but hadn’t taken part in it.

Bring on the kung-fu amputees - no arms vs. no legs anyone? A bit of high-speed underground ninja-tunneling is always good as well. I wanna see some shit like that. Crazy monks with gnarly special powers can make any film good. FACT.

It's from the episode where Bob runs for mayor. Homer is deciding whether to vote for him or Quimby, and says that as he decides to pull the lever for Bob.

i have been reading this thing https://nintil.com/2015/12/24/slaying-a ... rs-moloch/
i feel like when i read things i am inclined to agree with them 100% which makes me feel like i am inclined towards [ur=https://www.google.com/search?q=fox+vs+ ... e&ie=UTF-8]hedgehog[/url] thinking
so now i just try to hedge (heh), like i have this idea that i like, but probably just following the implications of that idea is not the perfect/correct answer

it's because the US agrees with canada on like 99% of things. Try becoming a communist dictatorship and see how far not going to war gets youCanada, everything in the Caribbean, Mexico, everything in the Pacific. Canada or Mexico don’t have an army capable of stopping the United State’s yet they don’t invade? Why? Becaue the realist theory of international relations is bunk. People don’t generally want to go to war nowadays, and politicians follow.

Re: slatestarcodex
in general the whole article seems blind to the possibility of decit
Re: slatestarcodex
seems pretty accurate though, yeah?In the system, you shock yourself eight hours, but then you’re free to do as you please (Save for speaking against the system). But, I assume, you have friends, family, and so on. So one day, when having dinner with your relatives, you say: We are alone here, no one can hear us, so listen well: I think the system we are living in is fundamentally nonsense, and we should stop shocking each other. Your family knows that they are expected to kill you for having said that, but they also think that the system is nonsense. And, being family, they don’t really expect other family members to kill each other. So they agree, and make common knowledge their disagreement. The rule is thus defused for the family. On a series of ony-by-one talks with other friends, this innovative idea spreads along groups until the system is effectively abolished.

it kind of seems hypothetical-fighting? like yes the electric shock scenario is unrealistic, but there were absolutely times where people's family would report each other to the secret police;

Re: slatestarcodex
again the problem is decit--if an apparent friend of family member is willing to break the implicit secrecy, they're not just going to tell you that! And that makes conspiring like this really risky, because you not only have to trust everyone's silence, you have to trust their judgement of who else to talk with.
