snob music thread

Post by Crunchums » Thu Sep 13, 2018 10:06 pm

queens of the stone age's self titled album is so good
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlE5mbe ... 81RzP1jncL
that chorus, man. i only realized like yesterday that the song is called "If Only" and that's what they're saying during the chorus
another thing that always gets me is the end of Walkin on the Sidewalks. pretty crazy that something so repetitive can be so great
https://youtu.be/3ZY8dDjlvGU?list=PLNSn ... jncL&t=158
that's timestamped to the thing that i'm talking about but obv if you want the full effect you should listen to the full song

another album with parts that really get me is Those Younger Days by The Hunts
https://youtu.be/MywXY6Q21LM?list=OLAK5 ... nNsF4&t=93
there is a word for that thing where there are multiple vocal threads (like in the sense of sentences) going on at once and i forget what that word is but man do i love that effect. bad religion is good at it
https://youtu.be/moPY9_wqH-8?t=110
https://youtu.be/OzT26P4IUqk?t=150
but the thing that i was listening to just now that inspired me to make this thread were these parts of one other song on that album
https://youtu.be/Ifns7X_3E7Y?list=OLAK5 ... nNsF4&t=71
https://youtu.be/Ifns7X_3E7Y?list=OLAK5 ... NsF4&t=140
^especially at 2:31
also the album art is nice now that i'm looking at it

would it be better if i did not linked to timestamps but instead just mentioned the time? i feel like it's a trade-off because if all you care to do is check out the part that i'm talking about then probably you want timestamps in the link, but if you want to listen to the whole song (like you should >: 3 ) then mentioning the time saves you from having to skip back to the beginning

also i was thinking maybe we could do something like a book club where we all agree to listen to one album a week or something and then we could talk about it

I'd try it with a song before an album. They did something like that on mafiascum forums, it was kinda good until the guy whose favourite bands were like, Blink182 and Green Day started ranting about emo.

^i like that album
the version of it that you posted is different than the version that's on spotify
(also there's the Musical Tubers thread for just posting youtube links; my idea in making this thread was for more effort-post-y things)

Ctrl - SZA
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... X75ojozGdR
such a good album. songs 1-7 (and 14) are super good, but 8-13 are just decent/good
it's weird for an album to be lowered by a bunch of solid tracks

The best version of Moon River is Andy Williams

Every other version is not as good

I wonder if they were smart enough to check for minutes listened as opposed to just number of tracks, which makes albums like Madvillainy or Illinois show up disproportionately

I had somebody at work today try and tell me that the The Corrs cover of Dreams was superior to Fleetwood Mac. Apparently he'd never heard the whole backstory behind Dreams and Go Your Own Way so it's somewhat forgivable.

Also i forget if I ever mentioned this but there's a Spotify MGSV playlist that includes the Bowie version of Man Who Sold The World which completely and utterly misses the point of the song within the game.

But baby I've been here so long
I've heard this tune and I love this song
You know, I even listen to it on my Ouya
But your cover is a big pile of shit
I'd rather hurl than experience it
It's hot garbage, not a Cohen Hallelujah

it's really funny to me that they mark the artist like that instead of it just being like "MLP Soundtrack" or something
