fuuuuuuk

my stereo is underperforming now that I need to bounce sound off of the sea

any snob recommends for something that (ideally) bluetooths to iTunes & physically to a turntable? & just explodes bass so the sharks get what is coming to them?

only on mobile so shrugging dramatically, unfortunately

i kind of already know what uh all i've been listening to this year / last year though. spotify stopped working, sort of, on my windows phone. i can't search for music anymore but i can play radio stations based off of songs on the playlists i've last listened to, since it keeps a history of that, and that's fine for work.

but now at home i can't play spotify in vivaldi or the new edge and it weirdly doesnt have anything to do with how i've got, like, ublock. oh, maybe it's got something to do with the built in ad blocking stuff. i think they just hate the new web player

so now i'm spending all of my time on youtube just listening to singles of things i guess

you can find albums on youtube
like here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... pHtSkO-Tmu
(that album in particular is frustrating because i haven't been able to find it anywhere other than youtube, not even for money)
or https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=O ... zqa19l9OPI

how does spotify "make" you do anything? there's a setting that auto-plays music that you didn't select, but you can turn it off

my experience with the spotify app was that i would enter a song or album, and it would play things like what i entered while only sometimes playing the thing i entered.

for instance, if i entered "deep cuts" by the knife, it would play me lots of other songs by the knife which are not on that album and songs by artists like the knife, and would occasionally sprinkle in songs off the album "deep cuts". by contrast, when i enter "deep cuts full album" into the youtube search bar, i get a playlist of every song off "deep cuts" in the order they appear on that album.

im not sure if i had it set up wrong. i used the free mobile app with the stock settings and bounced off it pretty fast. twice.

maybe the free mobile app is different from the paid one, though i thought the only difference was ads
my bet would be 1) you were playing some sort of "similar songs radio" thing that the search turned up instead of the actual album 2) you need to turn off that setting (or else once the album is over it will start playing some sort of "similar songs radio" thing)

free is actually next level terrible if you want it to play something specific

you can't play things specifically, so that's already bad, but you can at least i guess get a playlist that has the thing you like? but for playlists, your own or someone else's, it will insert "suggested songs." not too often. it's not the worst thing ever. and sometimes the songs are actually pretty ok, since theyre like at least like related suggested songs, but it can still be pretty bad, especially if the genre is sort of really bad in different time periods. you can skip them and again not the worst thing ever but the audacity. i don't really like the idea of inserting songs into a playlist i made or that someone else specially curated. and you still get ads on top of this

but that's its own thing, and the suggested song thing i mention here is important because you can't just play a playlist of a song you like or just a handful fo songs you like. if you play a short playlist, then it's all suggested songs. as a free spotify person you gotta know to go with long playlists only.

there's also the radio which you'd think you could at least get one song you liked played pretty often, since you built the entire radio station around that, but in the weirdest like fuck you the radio stations seem to like play the band constantly, but not the song you built the station around, or it'll just play the song you built the station around but no other song by the artist. i have two, three, that do that. it's very weird.

and also it's still playing the "suggested songs," but it drops the transparency there since it's all suggested songs. there is actually an indicator that you're getting an ad song in the playlist.

ah ok so it is just different unless you pay them money. on mobile specifically, or on PC too? because I remember using spotify before i started paying money and it was not like that, but maybe they've changed it

also I feel like "Mobile Experience Bad" is a pretty evergreen headline

on pc ublock actually stops their ads and ad songs and for whatever reason you can play a song specifically so, kind of great, but now it just sort of doesn't work. you usually just get stuck on one second of a song playing and then it skipping to the next song. if you do get a song that plays then it will only play for nine seconds. they'd much prefer you to use their desktop "app" version, or maybe just mobile entirely since you cant even look at your year end wrap stuff outside of it now

edit - interestingly if you disable adblock and play in a "private" browser, then it will still skip every song into an ad that plays in its entirety because holy shit that's important into just nine seconds of a song

I'm using the downloaded version on my PC and that's pretty great at least.

EDIT: You don't get to skip out on ads though.

Listening to the Stones discography in order

It's amazing how off the rails they go with Between the Buttons and Satanic Majesties Request, and then how back on the rails they immediately get with Beggars Banquet

To give you an idea, Beggars Banquet opens with Sympathy for the Devil
