Genshin has no meta-progression, it's not a game you replay! It just has regular progression.

It's also not really a game you play for the challenge, for the most part. It's not particularly well-tuned in that respect. For me, it was a game about exploration and getting to know a world and its inhabitants.

For games that do, I usually choose whichever one is labelled "for experienced players looking for a challenge", because difficulty levels beyond that tend to only be beatable through weird and degenerate strategies ("breaking the game"), and I want to experience the game properly, at least at first. So e.g. in Doom I play on Ultra-Violence, not Nightmare.
Hey neat this is also my strategy. Second from hardest is usually the call for 4 or more options. If there are only 3, hardest is usually okay though.

Well, consider what the difference is between doing a Hades run and getting 10 "levels" (darkness) and then spending them when you "finish" (die) vs getting 10 sphere levels in FFX and spending them at the next save point. The sphere grid is not really part of the gameplay just like the Hades mirror isn't. You get exp points in both cases from playing the game.

It's an interesting question because fundamentally they sound the same when you explain them, but also I think to anyone who plays both of these styles of games definitely knows that they feel different when you play.
What I don't like about metaprogression is that I can't tell if I'm getting further because I'm improving or because I'm getting little constant buffs.

supposedly that's what most people like about it (because they aren't improving and it's nice to not know that)
wow, [you]. that all sounds terrible. i hope it gets better for you

i think the majority of time in a hades playthrough has minimal amounts of metaprogression

well, the revive-from-death upgrades are pretty much mandatory and a huge game changer

mandatory in the sense that the game isn't fun enough to put in the time to finish it if you have to full reset after every death

I found the naming trifecta of xenoblade chronicles > valkyria chronicles > valkyrie profile very irritating and my brain has to circle through them before I can resolve thinking about one. All we need is a xenochronicles profile and I may get stuck in a loop that kills me

I'd much rather lose a difficult battle and then think about how I could have won than win a bunch of easy battles with simple strategies. Into the Breach is a good example of the kind of game that holds my attention!
Perhaps you need a nicer sleeping pad? That can make all the difference on hard ground. :morph:

I think Yakuza Like a Dragon is a 10/10 for me so far? I hope the dungeons/battles get a little more interesting, but everything else is just amazing.

the Evil Dead game looks pretty cool. not something I would personally play but it's neat how they managed to tie in the "flying through the forest" part of the movies to the demon gameplay

I barely heard of this and was gonna completely ignore it as one of those low-effort Smash ripoffs, but hot damn if those mechanics don't look fun as hell. Inspired stuff!

It reminds me of Dizzy in Guilty Gear, but even cooler! (For those who don't know, Dizzy is a pacifist, and most of her moves are her protesting, cowering away, or trying to hold back her two wing-spirits as they beat up on the opponent.)

Velma being Pheonix Wright is uninspired.

But the "Level 3" being a police car driving off the edge is *chef kiss*

Keplerth seems like it might be good. Probably worse than Terrarria but better than Starbound? I only played 2 hours so far.

Burning Mill, Tennessee
Burning Mill.jpg
Burning Mill.jpg (205.33 KiB) Viewed 1188 times

This region consists of only one map. This map is dirt roads that crawl all over low hills, with slight rocks all over the place. None of the terrain is exceptionally difficult -- but on the other hand, there isn't a real paved road anywhere on the map except for one dead-end spur to the north. There's a literal race track in the middle of the map where the garage is, and other parts of the map are set up as off-road courses. The race tracks work -- if you're playing online with your friends, you can have actual races. Meanwhile, there are conventional missions, a service hub that needs a generator, bridges that are out, and so on. Main objectives in this region include timed missions for the first time -- up until now, all timed missions have been side quests.

The map is 2k by 2k, the standard size, which makes this the second-smallest region in the game. Don River is actually smaller despite having two maps, because each of Don's maps are only 1x1. Difficulty-wise, I would rank this region as the second-easiest*, which makes my ranking from easiest to hardest:

Michigan
Tennessee
Alaska
Taymyr
Wisconsin
Maine
Don River
Yukon
Kola
Amur

*I said fourth-easiest the other day, but I've played it some more and it's even easier than I had thought

Just started Tokyo Xanadu and I'm quite enjoying it!

It is anime to a fault, though. Just in the prologue there is already a childhood friend who comes to wake us up so we're not late for school, and a mysterious transfer student who is secretly a magical girl.

but most importantly
