eh, it's a good theme, but all of my favorite themes are stuff I can hum along with. Guile's SF2 theme. Ken's SF2 theme. Infinite Azure. X-23's theme from MvC3

This is quality, no question about it, but it doesn't have the hum-along factor.

it sounds like someone cycled through three different themes on a synth and then added some drums and occasional high notes and called it a day

i like it when songs have melodies instead of the same arpeggio repeated twenty times

you're gonna have to break this down for me. i actually like music a lot but i understand nothing about it. telling notes is like magic to me. there's a yms video where he broke down how bad let it go was and it was actually really neat. i've seen people do the three note thing too but if you can't hear the notes

but also, as video game music it kind of has to be repetitive right who knows how long the stage goes for

okay for example the ascending trumpet at 0:17 is played five times in the first thirty seconds with minimal variation

then there's a string bit that they play at 0:32 that is again repeated over and over

then trumpet and strings play the same five notes back and forth

it's fine for videogame music to be repetitive to some extent but the things you're repeating need to be more interesting than five ascending notes

not to sound like i'm dismissive but do you like techno? do you like samples. i feel like even hearing what you're talking about, and i can totally hear the ascending thing which is neat, probably meant to be triumphant, there's like so much going on with instruments and all of it coming together to make this nice cake. and there's like a trumpet playing behind the trumpet and plucked guitar strings back there behind the ascending same handful of notes

It's fine background music, I don't think background music necessarily needs a hook.

I was thinking the other day about this thing:
It's kind of a bad song in the same way the Ryu thing is? There's no hook or anything unless you count that synth vamp. But it's very memorable because it fit really well with facing worlds, my brain can't separate the song from the experience of playing the game so the whole thing kind of works.

this is too long imo and gives the impression of someone being minimalist to show off but is way better

like it has one tune, then another tune, and then it puts the two together, which by itself makes it better than the ryu theme

the sung parts helps a lot too, there's way more detail in the singng than in any of the instrumental stuff in either song

Ryu has a traditional melody going back to SF2 that seems to be absent

Here is the SF4 version of Ryu's theme. The traditional melody is there despite all the synth, it comes in at the 20-second mark

SF4 was really good at respecting the traditional melodies of the characters even while remixing them

The 1:03 mark is nuts lol

Sagat's SF2 theme was incredible because of the rhythmic ambiguity. Where do the measures begin and end?

Google says it's 11/8. I was too white to get there myself.

interesting. the singing strikes me as very repetitive. not in a bad way, i like the song, but it's just someone saying around the world the same way forever

it is repetitive but the singing is 100x more interesting than the ascending major trumpet

just be aware this guy talks like he's a lot smarter than he actually is, don't let an intellectual grifter set your thinking or culture
