It's a design shop, he talks about a character's design! Their story mostly doesn't fit into it.

This guy does a lot of really good in-depth character design breakdowns! I enjoyed this one because it reminded me of [you].
The narrator has a great way of raising obvious questions and ignoring them

"Juri will do anything to achieve her FASCINATING GOALS. Now onto her hair"

Um, ok, wanna tell me what those goals are?
there's a whole thread all about Juri's goals!

Wow, new surprise free DLC character for Samurai Shodown. A girl with rabbit ears who teleports around with an umbrella

Her playstyle reminds me of Dhalsim, weirdly enough.

which brings up the obvious question of why Dhalsim doesn't have bunny ears

- She has a projectile, with incredible recovery. So she can zone. If the projectile hits the opponent (unblocked), this builds a separate meter she has. When that meter gets to three, the next projectile hit will do massive damage and put the opponent in an aerial stun state in which it's possible to land another hit on them
- She has good reach, comparable to Kyoshiro
- She throws her umbrella, or throws herself from it, with various combinations of qcf+button or qcb+button. When she throws herself from the umbrella, she's the projectile!
- A thrown umbrella hovers in place. She cannot grab it back with LS like a normal dropped weapon. However, she can teleport to it, which instantly regrabs it, with qcb+button
- This then is a setup, e.g. throw umbrella behind and above opponent, teleport to it and reappear doing HS
- When she doesn't have the umbrella, her weaponless punches are not punches. They are full-blown slashes with energy coming from her fists. Her range on these is comparable to other characters with their weapons
- She has no real antiair
- Her SSM can only be done when she -doesn't- have the umbrella. It emanates from the umbrella, not her. This then is another setup, but the opponent can keep away from the umbrella, or block the SSM

That slash at 1:06 looks pretty antiair-y, does it not work against deep jumpins or something?

Huh I had to watch that like 10 times to see what's going on

OK she is throwing the umbrella up-forward there, yeah it looks pretty good against that angle of jump-in

It's interesting if her normals aren't clearly worse without her umbrella, just different. That would make her a little like a stance character, choosing between projectiles and umbrella normals, or the teleport and unarmed normals.

Bunny ears coexisting with human ears looks wrong, but I guess it's like having wings and arms.

Frankly why should we settle at two sets of ears on a girl when it's demonstrably possible to graft on more?
