Spoiler!
games 1 and 2 - it's very easy to lose a game of starcraft! everything is optimized to be as skimpy as possible, so often if you can budge things just a little bit you just win instantly
game 3 - more burrow shenanigans! Flash is too good, though, and handled it like it was whatever. hydra plague is fun and I think effort might have been ahead at times and was in a fine position until he failed to defend his 4th and instantly lost. ZvT is hard
game 4 - i love the dramatic tension in this game because as a spectator the instant you see a queen's nest you know what effort is going for, but then it takes a million years to get there. i love the sequence of: flash smartly saves leftover medics from an earlier group that got taken out to scout -> sees the defilers coming and goes for a brilliant snipe of them that would have won the game if it worked -> effort is either prepared for it or reacts to it (i would guess the former since it's basically the only way he could lose from that position; possibly he was even deliberately baiting it)
game 5 - a lot of great stuff in here. flash didn't even play badly. effort's preparedness against the drops was majestic. those swarms to protect the defilers in game 4 were impressive, holy shit my mind was blown by:
https://youtu.be/RGbOJLbadKE?t=9164 good angle for zerg, but it doesn't clean up flash's army and zerg is very much in danger
https://youtu.be/RGbOJLbadKE?t=9194 look at the zerglings on the minimap (just to the left of dead center of the minimap). they go through the middle and i'm like whoa i don't think a counter is going to work out for effort here. but no, instead it's the kind of picture-perfect flank that's so unrealistic that you never even come close to pulling it off, except effort just set it up like 20 seconds in advance (an eternity in starcraft) and it might have been the difference between winning and losing. i freaked out watching that
btw that video is ~3 hours long but that's because it's got lots of dead time to prevent spoilers

Spoiler!
spider mines do a lot of AOE damage when they blow up. like if effort were not paying attention there, that mine would kill probably like ~6 zerglings. but he is paying attention, and he reacts with burrow, which apparently stops the mine from blowing up for a bit, and then is able to pull away the zergling that the mine is targeted on, and is even able to do it such that even that zergling survives. it's very impressive micro

(here is a link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUTMhmVh1qs )
i always thought old style bots had no chance to even touch top starcraft players, even with superior apm, and i still think that
but it makes sense that deepmind could easily exceed top starcraft players even with less apm; it's basically like how the human brain works except wholly dedicated to the game instead of having to worry about the rest of the universe
although the fact that it was PvP same map same spawn position makes it a less impressive result, but probably it's not too hard to go from there to something more general

obv this is like a silly facet of things to focus on, but in a future where deepmind is comoditized it's going to be amusing that i could like figure out what netrunner deck i should play by just throwing deepmind at the meta or something
though that's maybe even a harder problem than starcraft - playing a specific deck vs another specific deck is easier, but adding deckbuilding in makes things more complicated - so who knows

I mean I have been getting a lot more invested in him post-Kespa, as he has proved successful. But the reasons I like him are more a combination of

Success despite a lot of people in TL still underrating him
Samsung KHAN pride yeh boiii <------- I do remember him from the old days but back then I only supported him for team loyalty reasons
His playstyle is actually really fun, his macro seems not the best but he (mostly) succeeds in compensating for it with some good tactics and smart play

well i was definitely impressed in that game. that was a very unusual situation to find yourself in in a TvP, and I think he would have lost if he played on strategic autopilot

it was also pretty silly on best's part - i think he wins the games if he just spreads those 4 arbiters (assuming he actually had stasis researched; i would bet he did

mutalisks flapping their wings in space always seemed strange to me

not just on the space tileset, but in cinematics as well

interview with a mutalisk where you ask them why they're flapping in space and they start drifting away helplessly
