i think some people, like children for instance, do prefer the f2p games over paid, complete, micro-transaction-free ones because they can actually get them without their parents being involved.

perhaps diablo immortal is just not for you (us). great games are still being made. getting too attached to franchises is itself not healthy and leads to a lot of the relevant issues.

people like to complain i suppose.

Yeah, I should've known. After the WC3 remaster I expected D2R to be a dumpster fire, but was pleasantly surprised. And I only paid a few bucks out of pocket for it since I still had blizzbucks from selling WoW gold!

The too bad thing about that game is that it hasn't gotten a remaster. It needs it worse than 2 did

i think it would be tough to remaster d1. d2 the gameplay is basically solid and it's fine to just spruce up the graphics and maybe make some balance tweaks. d1 i think you would need to try to make the gameplay feel smoother, and that would be a tough task

I agree. I think it would be possible but some amount of the tension and atmosphere of that game comes from the rough parts, like not being able to run or the limited field of vision. You would need to be careful with the QoL improvements you added not to ruin it.

the most obvious QoL improvement would be being able to go faster in town, heh
but yeah exactly - it would be really weird to spruce up the game with nice graphics and then you're still walking really slowly through a dungeon and getting locked in hitstun etc

its all just standard gacha game fair. f2p will be able to succeed, but they will need to play smart and conservative just like every other gacha game. you shouldnt play gachas unless you are looking for a grindy time waster bonsai type game or you are a multi-millionaire. thats the genre.
Except grinding is crippled in Diablo Immortal. You're soft-capped, once you reach a certain level you cannot grind anymore without paying. Every time you pay, you can push the soft cap back a little.

diablo immortal seems very different to me than something like mahjong soul or really any gacha where the primary motivation is pngs of anime girls rather than loot systems that give stats

I don't know many gachas, but I think one of the important differences is the existence or lack of competitive multiplayer (that is affected by the P2W mechanics). A thing I appreciated about Genshin Impact is that there is absolutely no way of competing with other players, either directly or indirectly. So you could be happy with your little bonsai experience, you weren't pressured to compete or compare yourself with others.

Diablo Immortal has both direct PvP and also non-PvP leaderboards with rewards for making it to the top, because of course it does. (Naturally, the people who pay the most win in PvP, and the people who pay the most get to be at the top of the leaderboards.)

Oh speaking of multiplayer: Diablo Immortal has cooperative multiplayer too, but they have this neat system where the pay-to-win loot crests I mentioned earlier not only act as lootboxes for you, they also improve the drops of your teammates. Which means that F2P players are getting kicked from groups because they aren't "paying their way", regardless of how strong or competent they are. So that's also a fun experience.

i read two articles about daily caps. regardless, it sounds a lot like a stamina system which are in pretty much every gacha.

that aspect sure. there are plenty of gachas with competitive pvp, which heavily favors whales because of stamina systems, extra pulls, gear upgrade systems, etc., though.

nobody should expect a mobile gacha to have an even playing field for whales and f2p players.

The multiplayer is also unaffected by how much you spend, right? Which is how it should be.

i believed you. im not sure daily or weekly is a huge distinction. weekly is certainly more predatory to addicts.

the game part of mahjong souls sounds like it is better than the game part of most gachas.
