Re: Salt Mining
i still enjoy artifact
Re: Salt Mining
it's a good game! the problem is really just where we're at as an industry. maybe we can get someone here to celebrate dlc, microtransactions, and predatory gambling practice stuffKhaos wrote:i still enjoy it

Re: Salt Mining
it's really interesting too because, iguess, there was at least a sense of like, "we're all in this together!" nobody wants final fantasy seven to be reimagined and then repackaged and rereleased as like 20 different chapters at cost each, right? and nobody actually thinks that pre order bonuses are a good thing, or that pre ordering is good at all? that content should be cut out of a game and then sold as dlc. early access, the list goes on and on
well, nope, it turns out that this is all what people actually want. more lootboxes, please.

Re: Salt Mining
People do like pre-order bonuses, because it feels like they're helping to ensure the game's existence (even though they're probably not)

Also there's the Expansion Phenomenon we've talked about with board games, where when you see a game, you think, maybe it's good, but then when you see it has 20 expansions you think holy shit it MUST be good

Re: Salt Mining
I'd say that heavily depends upon what the bonuses are

Re: Salt Mining
Oh another reason to pre-order a game digitally is, if you're salivating to play it -- with some games, pre-ordering means that you actually download it now, and then at midnight on the release date, voila, you can play it immediately
That's more of a console thing I imagine

Re: Salt Mining
pre-ordering is fine, and people's newfound disdain for it is a symptom of other problems
Re: Salt Mining
Board games are funny
Like, they're not going to run out of Assassin's Creed, you literally don't need to pre-order it, there's always more Assassin's Creed
But some board games, it's like, did you pre-order it? No? Then you ain't getting one
Good luck getting High Frontier Third Edition for example. You're not

Re: Salt Mining
the practices tied into pre ordering. if you want to just give a company you like money for nothing, then that's fine, and you could just trust that people have done their researhRylinks wrote:pre-ordering is fine, and people's newfound disdain for it is a symptom of other problems
but then while we're talking about artifact, steam basically destroyed their community good will by offering a pre order option, and then not giving the pre order people beta access, even though that wasn't anything they said they were going to do, or that people got for pre ordering
Re: Salt Mining
maybe steam could have got those people back in a really clever way, though, like, you get a card that destroys target toxic masculinity

i like lootboxes so long as they're for purely cosmetic purposes

Re: Salt Mining
re artifact: the game itself is really good! i like a lot of what they were doing with it, except the structure of how it was monetized and whatnot was, at least to me, pretty obviously never going to take off since it was structured like a physical card game, even though the cards themselves were probably gonna be way cheaper than one. just seems like a bit of a miscalculation of what keeps people playing digital card games
but then steam also banned a VN i wanna buy, even after their whole 18+ content being allowed thing, so i am conflicted on if i should feel bad for them or not

we should do a draft tournament. it sounds like we have at least 4 grobotters who play
