i have read you need to do account stuff like scythe to play online, and of course we would need to download it.

Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
i dont have terraforming mars, but if you play coup or scythe or something let me know
Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
if we get more than 5 i think scythe is a good idea
Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
i think scythe is a good idea but only because the turn cycle takes enough time that I can do my nails in between taking my game actions
Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
also I heard that the Tabletop Simulator module for Terraforming Mars was good from someone
Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
how does table top simulator work? i imagine once you buy TTS you can get a bunch of games for free but there's no rules engine so you're just sliding cards around and such
Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
I think it's possible to have scripting for certain things, although many games are played without a hard rules engine in place and my expectation would be that it's more card sliding than not.
I wouldn't really know though, as I've only used TTS to draft MTG and play games of MTG. Friends and acquaintances assure me it's the ultimate piracy executable though. Modules for just about any boardgame you can imagine

Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
yeah, pretty much. i own it, but find it frustrating and not worth it. the terraforming mars module for it is fine, but the rules arent programmed in, you have to manually grab cards and such, etc.

Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
yeah it's basically a big physics engine. however some games have modules with a bunch of scripting in them - the only one I've tried is the gloomhaven one but that has scripts that automatically handle scenario setup, room reveals, etc. you still have to do a bunch of things manually but it's actually a lot faster than playing the physical game

I find it very frustrating, but a bunch of people I know love it
wow, [you]. that all sounds terrible. i hope it gets better for you
Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
i think i would probably not enjoy it, except for prototyping purposes
then i could find someone to play robot factory with

Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
it's a mess but at least for me it still nets out to being less hassle than playing physically (although I'd probably still play physically if not for, you know)
I think for any game with a good dedicated adaptation you're better off playing that though
Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
the cost of dedicated adaptations can get pricey though, especially when you consider that everyone needs to own a copy
i wonder if any board games sell online for a higher price, but then you can allow anyone to join/play with you, even if they don't own the game themself

I know of ones that use that model for expansion content but none that do it for the base gameKhaos wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 6:28 pm the cost of dedicated adaptations can get pricey though, especially when you consider that everyone needs to own a copy

I feel like the cost of buying dedicated adaptations is still tiny compared to physical boardgaming, and they go on sale much more often, but yeah I can see preferring to use TTS if you're just trying out a game you might never return to

2-5 player
Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
I played a game against 3 medium AI's and felt like I had a better feel for the game. I went with a "actions, science and space" build and it took about 9 turns before it got going but I won on turn 12 and could kind of see, as I went, how the AI valued specific things and specific actions.
Seems like the AI values building greenery a lot and generally pursued cities and greenery. The AI is dumb about unlocking achievements that it then doesn't get (I won two achievements that the AI unlocked) but still lets you see what a programmed player pursuing a totally normal safe strategy looks like.
I also got to see how dumb some of the effects that lower costs can be if you stack them. It's a big cost upfront and really slows you down but if things line up right and the game goes long enough they can be stupid.
