Rhyme I came up with to remember Canadian money: it’s tiny, it’s toonie, it’s all a little loonie
Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
Yeah, so, games often have a phase where you start out doing random shit, then you learn certain cards are better than other cards, and then everyone learns those cards are better and now that everyone knows everyone also knows how to plan for those cards and now they aren't that good anymore.Skeletor wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 5:37 pm It depends on what "huge" means, but I think it's great when games have a variety of opening strengths, so you can claw your way to victory and so that games feel different each time you play, and of course also so that you can play with a group that has varying skill/experience levels and folks can hope to get lucky rather than relying entirely on politics to stand a chance
BUT
I think the thing that really gets me going when someone says some game is unbalanced is that for me it's a signal that actually the game might have a lot of depth. I don't know if that's true for Wingspan or not. But I think most games with a lot of depth, even if they're balanced, are going have bits that look really unbalanced until you're an expert. Obviously stuff like go or chess doesn't look like this. But with card games and board games that have a lot of randomness and also a lot of depth, I expect that a lot of the journey to expert involves finding something that looks imbalanced, then leveling up your skills until you think something else is unbalanced instead, and so on
We've seen that happen in terraforming mars. A meta has emerged among my friends so that specific strategies kind of get beat back down if you try them. Like, rolling ecoline is basically death sentence unless other people are going for forests early too cause otherwise everyone asteroids the fuck out of your greenery.

wow, [you]. that all sounds terrible. i hope it gets better for you
Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
cool. grak are you in for the earlier time?
after grak i think that leaves one slot left for whomever else wants to play

Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
i prob wont play the birding game because i dont know one thing about it and i dont own it too but if you decide to do any casual shit betweentimes like a round of coup hit me up
Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
gg! game was fun. i feel like its kinda low on interaction though. for the last half of the game i had my turns planned out right at the start of each round
Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
it looks like this game has local multiplayer and remote play together so i think we can actually play without everyone buying the game? if anyone is interested in playing it without having to pay dollars lmk
Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
looks like you guys were not getting enough eggs.

Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
so... not enough birds? because i think jeb and i were maxxed out on eggs
i hit a card bottle neck because i didnt have any water birds. i also made 2 expensive birds to get bonus cards that both gave me zero points. never again

Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
maybe im not reading the scoring table correctly. i thought each egg on the table was one egg, but im guessing thats not the case.
my big "feels wrong but strategy" thing i had to break down when i first started playing was that often times in the last round you really just want to get eggs 4-5 times.

bonus cards are a trap. i find more often than not the card options both do little to nothing for me. if youre getting more bonus cards at a point in the game that you dont have enough time to build towards whatever you get, its probably not worth it.

Yeah it's not one egg each there. If Khaos had clicked the details button we'd see how many points in each categoryseathesee wrote: ↑Mon Dec 07, 2020 5:03 pm maybe im not reading the scoring table correctly. i thought each egg on the table was one egg, but im guessing thats not the case.

Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
iirc skeletor got a bunch of eggs doing cool synergistic things, but i'm guessing it's hard to beat a guaranteed 5-6 points per action

Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
I was getting 5 points per action for a while in the middle with my draw actions that also gave me eggs (on those cards themselves, not freely placed), but once I filled up on eggs on those cards it was 3 points per action
I had hoped that drawing 2 and looting 3 cards per turn would give me some way into another strategy by the time I filled with eggs but it didn't happen. Not having anything going on in any other habitats meant none of the cards I was getting would let me get into another strategy without a whole lot of actions

Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
just getting a bird that could hold more eggs would be helpful
i need to consider egg slot quantity when i look at the bird card score next time

Well in my case the eggs had to go on the birds generating the eggs
I did later get those two birds that give me eggs whenever someone else does an egg action which helped me fill out some other egg holders

Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
the fraction of the bar taken up by eggs is the fraction of the score, so that would be like 15-20 eggs for me and khaos (which seems about right from what I remember)
Re: Saturday Night Grobot (PC) Games
yeah i think i had 24/25
