My original goal was to be vaccinated by June so I could have a cookout in July and I'll be fully vaccinated on Sunday so I am pretty happy about this.Shiny Days wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 3:25 amthat appears to be the Blackfeet, actually, who are rad. a friend of mine back in town was from them. they're very, uh, nomadic, in a cool way.Fry Guy wrote:I heard one of the indigenous Montana tribes has managed to get like 98% of their people vaccinated so they've started giving their extras to Alberta folks across the border.
anyway, positive stuff! Canada predicts that something like 75% of our population is going to be, I guess half vaccinated by the end of May? fully vaccinated? that would be neat. that's a lot of the population. and May! like who knows what the summer is gonna look like if that's where we're at for May. but no word on like easing restrictions or health awareness stuff or whatever even if you are vaccinated
and then slightly less positive, Alberta wont lower the age of getting the thing despite our own self sliding into a third wave because, uh, they don't got any vaccines. we have 112 thousand and 100 thousand appointments and zero more coming, so...
I am desperate to socialize. I have not seen my friends in over a year.

my mom is losing her mind that she hasnt been able to see me in about a year and a half, and then considering the last time she did see me i was, you know. as for people in real life, it's kind of crazy to think i haven't actually really done a thing since about september. we didnt get out all the time but you know, a couple times a month, once a month. i think the last movie i saw in theaters was, like ... sonic?Grakthis wrote:

but i'm not missing it necessarily. and a lot of my friends i would argue are currently having the best time of their lives. we're the only province in canada that has theaters not operating at all so my theater friend who typically works shift work, who has always had a very difficult time organizing events, being at events, getting to play games and shit with friends has been paid off for like the last year now? year plus? and is just living in discord playing games all the time with arguably more people than we got to hang out with here in real life because moved away people can be there also

There have been aspects of this that I have enjoyed. I have spent a TREMENDOUS amount of time with my family, I have learned how my kids do at school, what they are learning and how they learn (and that Lorelai and Caroline are so incredibly different in how they learn and what they are good at)... and obv not constantly feeling like I have to be SOMEWHERE is nice.Shiny Days wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 12:49 ammy mom is losing her mind that she hasnt been able to see me in about a year and a half, and then considering the last time she did see me i was, you know. as for people in real life, it's kind of crazy to think i haven't actually really done a thing since about september. we didnt get out all the time but you know, a couple times a month, once a month. i think the last movie i saw in theaters was, like ... sonic?Grakthis wrote:

But that is no where near enough to replace my need to socialize. And not like, the kind of forced socializing i've done with neighbors. I need more regular interactions with my friends.
Emily fucking talks about having lunch with coworkers and it makes me jealous.

Benzo got his first shot this week and I was a little surprised to find out how happy he was about it. Like, I figured he and Jared would be satisfied to just stay home all the time but I guess not.

well, being a part of the fighting game scene is pretty social, but yeah they could just be on discord or whatever chatting it up with people not really missing anything, and the d00d is an introvert, so i know what you mean. people have been reacting to this weird. you'd think introverts paradise, but. i think a poster here was saying that while sure they didnt do anything having the very possibility taken away was kind ofGrakthis wrote:Benzo got his first shot this week and I was a little surprised to find out how happy he was about it. Jared still plays.
Benzo plays a lot of FF14 and Apex.

also, before "building factories", you need another nine months for "conceive factory architect" then 18 years for "factory architect grows up" and 4 more years for "factory architect goes to college"

It looks like it's under opinion, but still. "Building factories", lololol
Re: Charho-oh Virus Thread
That is a crazy infographic.
Moderna had their vaccine completed within 48 hours of the mapping of the virus' genetic structure. They wrapped up the phase one testing 44 days before that piece was published.

Re: Charho-oh Virus Thread
Context is important.
That is actually a screen grab from an active graphic that switches between a classic expectation and the miracle they were trying to pull off. The article itself is about how we might be able to shorten the timeline to the 12-18 month window.
In other words, that picture is extremely misleading.

Re: Charho-oh Virus Thread
The grim truth behind this rosy forecast is that a vaccine probably won’t arrive any time soon.

And that's what the Extremely Smart People® were saying this time last year. Clearly there were Forward Thinkers™ who thought that could be beat. Fortunately the Forward Thinkers™ were right.
None of that changes the fact that the image pterrus originally posted is extremely misleading absent the rest of the graphic and the associated article. It's every bit as misleading (not that I think pterrus was trying to be misleading, but wherever he found that image probably was) as someone saying that Ma'Khia Bryant was murdered without mentioning that she was attacking another person with a knife at the time she was shot.
Pour like Hemingway's last call.

Re: Charho-oh Virus Thread
it's fair to say that the image out of context makes the article look worse than it is, but it's still absurdly overconfident in its pessimistic forecast. it presents something much worse than what actually happened as a "best case, very unlikely to happen" kind of thingDantes wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 5:35 pm And that's what the Extremely Smart People® were saying this time last year. Maybe we are living in the 1% world where the best case came true.

wow, [you]. that all sounds terrible. i hope it gets better for you

With the benefit of hindsight, where the best case scenario actually appears to have happened, you're sitting here and saying that the entire premise of the article is incorrect.Doug wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 6:23 pmOK but none of that changes the fact that the very thesis of the article was completely wrongDantes wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 5:35 pmAnd that's what the Extremely Smart People® were saying this time last year. See if you have to apologize for journalists by saying "With the benefit of hindsight," that means the journalists tried to act like they had foresight when they had no business doing soDantes wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 7:49 pmWith the benefit of hindsightDoug wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 6:23 pmOK but none of that changes the fact that the very thesis of the article was completely wrongDantes wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 5:35 pm

Stop supporting fortune-teller media
No journalist had any business "predicting" when there would be a vaccine

because of shorter lines I got my second dose ~30 minutes before the three week window had passed from my first
already I can feel the power of the forbidden vaccine schedule building

actually now it likely doesn't work. see, we have no data on 2.99 week spacing between doses
