Re: Google makes everything worse
ok arti, new problem
if I click on my desktop background, and then hit my keyboard hotkey to open vivaldi, it always starts minimized. it does not do this if anything else has focus, eg I click the taskbar first, another window has focus, etc. only when I focus the desktop background

Re: Google makes everything worse
my immediate idea is that you could just change the shortcut to, like, right click the shortcut, properties, run -> maximized, and then it wouldnt be able to do that. maybe
Re: Google makes everything worse
well the problem is it's not a shortcut, the button on the keyboard launches the default web browser through WindowsShiny Days wrote:my immediate idea is that you could just change the shortcut to, like, right click the shortcut, properties, run -> maximized, and then it wouldnt be able to do that. maybe

Re: Google makes everything worse
one of the weird things i'm seeing is that vivaldi is actually starting off of the screen, but that seems, uh, totally implausible? unless you're always looking at vivaldi maximized?haplo wrote:well the problem is it's not a shortcut, the button on the keyboard launches the default web browser through Windows
Re: Google makes everything worse
I saw that too, definitely not that. when I click on it on the taskbar, it always re-appears exactly where I last closed it (position, windowed/maximized, on the correct monitor).Shiny Days wrote:one of the weird things i'm seeing is that vivaldi is actually starting off of the screen, but that seems, uh, totally implausible? unless you're always looking at vivaldi maximized?haplo wrote:well the problem is it's not a shortcut, the button on the keyboard launches the default web browser through Windows

Re: Google makes everything worse
rather than use your keyboard shortcut, which is defective, what if you just pinned vivaldi to the taskbar, and then just windows key plus whatever number from the left it ishaplo wrote:I saw that too, definitely not that. when I click on it on the taskbar, it always re-appears exactly where I last closed it (position, windowed/maximized, on the correct monitor).
Re: Google makes everything worse
hm, I didn't know that existed. it does seem to work. weird though that it worked on my old pc with the same keyboardShiny Days wrote:rather than use your keyboard shortcut, which is defective, what if you just pinned vivaldi to the taskbar, and then just windows key plus whatever number from the left it ishaplo wrote:I saw that too, definitely not that. when I click on it on the taskbar, it always re-appears exactly where I last closed it (position, windowed/maximized, on the correct monitor).

Re: Google makes everything worse
pcs, right? what keyboard is it? there's of course like a million different things that we could try, like, uh, maybe reinstalling vivaldi? sort of high effort there and i wouldnt recommend it. just thinking it could be, like, a registry key that's fucked up for launch options you know? if that even exists. i'm just drumming up ideas. and if it does, it might not even get uh deleted by an uninstall. you could use ccleaner to get rid of the orphaned registry lines, though. i guesshaplo wrote:hm, I didn't know that existed. it does seem to work. weird though that it worked on my old pc with the same keyboard
it's very weird that it just happens at dekstop too, like whats causing that. why would the parameters there be different. i guess something else could be stealing focus? i actually saw a guy say that every program starts minimized because an epson printer thing that runs in the background steals focus, despite not actually having a program to show. there is a focus logger program but it looks like you can only download it from softpedia and hand gestures
oh i guess you could use focus.exe:

edit - there's a guy complaining about this as recently as five months ago actually
Re: Google makes everything worse
not really looking for answers anymore, but just to make it more fun, if I set one of the programmable keys on my keyboard (MS ergonomic 4000) to open vivaldi it works fine - so it's specifically only the web browser key
also I don't have to maximize the window or anything to get it to re-appear, I just have to focus anything other than the desktop background. so I can click on the taskbar and the browser will appear

Supposedly my windows pc has bluetooth hardware but I've never used it for anything. Trying to connect my airpods to it and getting nothing. I've connected them to my windows laptop before so I don't think they're the problem. rt plz

Re: Google makes everything worse
connecting your blue tooth to it how? bluetooth and other devices in settings, on, "now discoverable as"? if you've gotten that far and it isnt working, then i would recommend turning bluetooth off on your phone so that it's not just connecting to that every time it turns onSkeletor wrote:Supposedly my windows pc has bluetooth hardware but I've never used it for anything. Re: Google makes everything worse
I wondered if the phone was interfering somehow too, even though it worked on my laptop, and I tried with the phone off. Doesn't really make sense anyway 'cause you have to put them in pairing mode, the pc just can't find them when searching for bluetooth devices. My laptop can, so it really seems like a problem on the pc. Everything I found said to reinstall bluetooth drivers, which, ok, I tried that. I should figure out if I own some other bluetooth device to try to connect to it

i thought maybe they'd pair weirdly with windows, but looking at all the guides it's the same thing as anything else.

Re: Google makes everything worse
I got a Threadripper 3995 machine at work, feels good. There's so many cores that the Task Manager can't even display the utilization graph for each of them, it just has a box with the % in it.
