This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
all the other threads are also about not playing a PnP RPG, but this one is more specific

the 50% thing was just like, if they actually decide to do that. presumably they wouldn't
Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
an angel who has a kind of lifesteal attack, making it super hard to kill. players need to figure out that it steals life based on a function of their current life, so to beat it they have to have the low hp or wounded players panzer it
a tunneling worm-shaped angel. it's most vulnerable just as it emerges, but players don't know where it'll emerge from. the trick is that it can't turn while underground, so it'll always emerge somewhere on the line drawn from where it's facing when it submerges
an angel that can make disc-shaped portals. it attacks by moving portals through buildings/terrain and by placing stationary portals above players, dropping the "cylindrical cutouts" on them. the portals remain open for a couple seconds at a time before closing, with a cooldown between forming new ones.
players can destroy it by using portals to get closer to it. as they close the gap, it'll try to use a portal to teleport away. by grappling it and holding it halfway in its own portal, they can destroy it by cutting it in two when the portal closes (this risks the eva's arm being cut off)

Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
This is tougher with how damage works in AdEva. No on has hit points or a health total. Instead you take damage, and then (if you took enough damage) you'll roll a chart to see what happens to that body part. At first the results can only be so bad, but as your damage total creeps up you end up with a increasing modifier to the roll on the chart and you can lose limbs or be defeated. So I would have to make it something like the Angel can recover damage up to the damage total of the thing it's attacking or the median damage total of the players or something like that.
Combat positioning is mostly abstract in AdEva. The Angel might be in zone 1, with the players in zone 4, except one of them has run up to zone 1 and is has now created Engagement zone with it in melee. So you could kind of do this but mechanically it wouldn't really look any different from let's say a normal burrowing Angel.a tunneling worm-shaped angel. it's most vulnerable just as it emerges, but players don't know where it'll emerge from. the trick is that it can't turn while underground, so it'll always emerge somewhere on the line drawn from where it's facing when it submerges

Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
i can imagine knowing how the game works would help with these
Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
It's a world of imagination, so you can make anything work, some things are just easier to implement than others.
Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
an angel that manifests as a shadow, on buildings, terrain, etc.
hitting the shadow damages it, so players can take that route if they want to, however if they hit the space between the shadow and the sun (aka the space where something would need to stand in order to cast that shadow) they can deal much more damage to it

Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
The series had Leliel, where the angel looks like it's a thing but it was actually its shadow. This is solid twist on that and would be a good angel fight in a normal game, imo.Khaos wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 8:44 pm an angel that manifests as a shadow, on buildings, terrain, etc.

so i guess actually have no original ideas and just spout forgotten memories as ideas of my own
Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
I'm slowly working towards the possible endings for the game as well, so far we have 4* but to explain them I'll have to go into more detail about the setting so incoming longpost about my imaginary universe:
Spoiler!
So stuff has happened and I've coalesced the 4* possible endings into thus:
Spoiler!
Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
if Bearers exist, what's the purpose of a female, biologically? A child is conceived by a female but transferred from the female to the bearer somehow?
Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
I like the fact that you can just plug into the big monster and pilot it too
Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
He got that from Player of Games, a Culture novel by Iain M. Banks! In that, the males had a penis and testicles, the females had an eversible vagina and ovaries, and the "apex" had a womb. Male would fertilize the female's eggs, then the female would evert their vagina to implant the eggs in the apex, who would bear the fetus to term.
Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
i like the ambiguous reading that's possible here regarding eversible ovaries
Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
sex (securities fraud) is always more fun with a little mystery
Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
Females make eggs. The bearers kind of have their own versions of both sex (securities fraud) organs, though their external one's purpose is for collecting material.
Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
Again, it doesn't matter much because of the tech they brought. With the GeneSyS technology, they don't need 3 people to procreate anymore. Two folks of the same sex (securities fraud) can produce a child. 7 people can pitch in and create an offspring. Much higher than that the system starts skipping participants, but the Akked tend not to care that much about lineage and mostly communally raise the kids.
Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
We're doing cyberpunk for the next game. Set in Neo Hong Kong some time after the 4th corporate war, the group will be employed by Excalibur, an insurance company. They will be agents, deployed to situations to prevent insured assets from being claimable. How they do this, either by solving the problem or ensure the thing that goes wrong in a way isn't covered, or some other workaround, that's up to them.
So I'm trying to brainstorm interesting situations for them to get thrown in.
An insured asset being a hostage seems obvious. Possibly the situation would be resolving things before a ransom is declared or something like that.
Some kind of object that's under imminent threat of being destroyed that is effectively immobile, and can't be moved away.
Probably some kind of anti-heist where they have to set up to stop a valuable from being stolen from where it's being kept.
That's sadly all I've really got so far. You all have any ideas?

Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
the insured asset is classified information - only excaliber's ceo knows what it is. the players are directed to a location and directed to protect the entire location. they can try to defend the whole area or try to figure out where the bad guys are trying to go specifically, to make their job easier (via capturing and interrogating or seeing where they strike from, or whatever)
it could end up being one of those manilla envelope's in a vault, i dunno what secret thing you'd want on it in case the player's open it

Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
That's good. I like the idea of them having to figure stuff out before they can even really get started or it's that much tougher.Khaos wrote: ↑Fri Sep 17, 2021 7:53 pm the insured asset is classified information - only excaliber's ceo knows what it is. the players are directed to a location and directed to protect the entire location. they can try to defend the whole area or try to figure out where the bad guys are trying to go specifically, to make their job easier (via capturing and interrogating or seeing where they strike from, or whatever)

Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
pre-emptive strike mission: the asset is some technological prototype that cures cancer (or something similarly good) and excalibur has inside information on a terrorist group that plans to steal the technology, reverse engineer it, and make it open source. so you have to break into their hideout and do a thing:
1) eliminate the terrorists
2) plant evidence for the authorities (who would come arrest the group for you)
3) fail the mission, join the terrorists, and start PHASE 2 of the game

make them attend a mandatory very corporate training session where they have to brainstorm how they'd handle various situations which will actually equip you to deal with how theyre going to handle those situationsFry Guy wrote:That's sadly all I've really got so far. You all have any ideas?

Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
wow high level GM strategy here
Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
Nice. Knowing them, they would completely change strategies after deciding they didn't like how it went in the training. But still sounds amusing and would work well as an into session.
Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
We are a few sessions in, people are getting a feel for the system and their characters a bit.
Their first mission was a literal practice run, being a digital simulation which stood in for their job interview. Their 2nd mission was recovering a hard drive with sensitive data on it, which went very smooth.
Now comes the time for things to get messy.
You see, guests at the exclusive Club 33 restaurant in Disney Tower have been taken hostage. Currently it is unclear what the perpetrators' demands are, though the group's Media identified one of them as an ex-pat that did most recently failed at assisting a military coup in Central America. The person researching this found it unimportant and didn't pursue further information.
The reason the group has been brought in is because one of the hostages (some important persons offspring) has a significant insurance policy on them in the event of ransom. They are tasked with preventing the asset from having a ransom requested. One of them floated the idea of taking them out, since you can't really ask for a ransom for a corpse, but that was shot down. Their intent at this stage is to cause a distraction, extract the asset and GTFO before anyone knows what's happened. They have hired a netrunner, a ex-soldier buddy and one of the city's corrupt cops to assist in this endeavor. They've asked the netrunner to get in the system and set the fire protection stuff off at the right time. One of the players with the best stealth will use this moment to try and get in there and grab the asset and get out.
I haven't decided what exactly they're up to there, but I know it's not just grabbing some rich hostages and seeing what they can get. First off, they will definitely have a netrunner of their own, better equipped than the one hired by the PCs, and will already be past the ICE. That'll be the first wrinkle. They may get sidetracked and try to figure out what is actually going on. But if they go forward with the original plan, I expect things to play out a little differently than they were anticipating with how they hostiles react to the fire system going off.
Anyway, any fun ideas for what the group is actually after? The best I've been able to think of was some kind of AI related to the house of mouse but there's lots of possibilities. Or maybe they're not taking something but putting something in. I don't know. I don't want to throw excessive effort at figuring it out, since the players may not even attempt to find out, but I'd like to have an idea so I can leave clues either way.

Re: This is the thread for not playing a PnP RPG
have it so the guy theyre getting out is actually someone that the house of mouse wants to have a stern conversation with. the guy is actually being protected by d00ds because he knows the mouse is after them and so theyre just throwing shit at the wall to see if they can get them out of the place away from their goons
this is of course all over copyright
fuck it could even just be like the kid of the guy or something because theyre really fucking sleezy
