Jonze uses a technique a couple of times where a double approaches the screen, drops off the bottom of the screen, and then Walken stands up in his place, or vice-versa. It's a cheap effect, but it's funny when you consider that he's using this cheap effect deliberately to be amusing and doesn't care that we notice it. This isn't the only music video where he does this -- Elektrobank has a ton of it

Yes that is Sofia Coppola, if anyone wasn't sure

But a lot of the harness work in Weapon of Choice was still Christopher Walken. He said being the harness was painful but worth it

I rewatched Magin Call again, I've decided it's a five-star movie rather than the four-star movie I had thought it was

Heard a great line the other day:

John Wick is the darkest timeline. The one where Theodore Logan went to military school.

That is as funny as the first time I saw it.

It also almost entirely summarizes Wes Anderson.

Really? I wasn't even considering seeing it, but I've heard that it was good to great from multiple sources now.

It had a decent budget (relevant for the special effects), good characters, and the people who made it took the material seriously. The main characters all had high school level tragic D&D backgrounds and they talked to a certain extant like you would expect PC to talk. It was great. There was a get in a vault scheme that I swear they must have stolen from a session I played in when I was a kid. Also, the speak with dead scene was brilliant.

I don't want to give too much away , but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I hope it has lots of monsters that I recognize from monster manuals, because that is actually the point of such a film even if no one else realizes it

the previous & very bad movie leaned heavily on the distinction between red and gold dragons and the staffs that control them

I finally saw Black Panther 2. It was about what I expected, which was that it wasn't as bad as the redpilled community made it out to be and also wasn't as good as the critics promised

It's draggy, there are things that don't make sense characterwise, and it has a couple of really great scenes

It's funny how Marvel went from this thing that I would really look forward to to an afterthought. I haven't seen Quantumania yet and I won't bother until it's very cheap or free

I actually enjoyed PB2 quite a lot. It was a pretty good rumination on grief while still being a passable superhero story. Also, Namor was fantastic.

i think the thing here is that it's obviously just ... something that a person doesn't want or doesn't find whatever marvel is doing now as interesting, but i think they were actually struggling for a bit weren't they? like we were just attached to the characters and so kept going. like, people didn't like iron man 2 right, and then iron man 3 was pretty some people hated some people liked, but man robert downie jr. more decidely captain america 3 obv wasn't as widely praised as 2 at least, but chris evans. even people thought end game 2 was not great, which kind of fucks up end game 1 being so good / giving thanos some character

i watched / enjoyed loki because of actor guy and the set design so if you tried to swap him out i'd probably just stop being interested in that character. i'm looking forward to guardian 3 but that's sort of its own thing.

i guess this kind of falls apart with paul rudd. he just couldnt carry ant man. but i probably will watch that ... some day

i dont think it was ever anything amazing. like thor and captain america 1 were all "fine" and there were some gems in there, but it all felt like window dressing for the avengers, which to be fair avengers 1 is one of my favorite movies full stop. but when you get to the end of all of... that, all the stuff they set up finally paid off, and everything was resolved, there's no reason to get invested in the next chapter when what was already just "fine" was clearly getting worse over time, or maybe just more generic..? even the movies that people really seemed to like (thor 3, gotg2, etc) i had a lot of issues with. the tv stuff in particular i am led to believe was almost entirely dogshit, though i cant imagine myself ever watching any of it to verify that

the most i got out of the entire marvel cinematic universe outside of the main movies was just "hey i am glad to see that actor again." like hey, ant man was fun enough but not actually good; i dont give a fuck because michael douglas owns

So far.

Loki and Wadavision were good. The others not so much.
